Rep Wilson of SC response to letter asking for troop withdraw
Using the email on the the House website, I sent my Rep a letter, asking for the troop withdraw and formally advising him that I was going to be watching closely on what he says and how he votes over the next year on this issue. This is the response I got. It may or may not be a form letter. In case you could't tell...he's a Republican with all the "blah blah blah terrorism" in the response.

Dear xxxx(name withheld),

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding H.R. 2956,
the "Redeployment of American Forces from Iraq Act." I appreciate
your taking the time to write.

I understand your concerns and welcome your interest in this
matter. On July 10, 2007, Representative Ike Skelton (MO - 04)
introduced this legislation. Since this time, H.R. 2956 passed the house
by a vote of 223 - 201. I believe that America must triumph in the
Global War on Terrorism and that victory in Iraq is our only option. The
concept that the redeployment of our troops in Iraq will bring an end to
sectarian violence and terrorist activity in the region ignores history.

Further, removing our troops from Iraq will embolden the enemy
and make America more vulnerable to attacks. My concerns and beliefs
have been developed as a member of the Armed Services Committee,
through which I have visited Iraq seven times, as a 31-year veteran of the
South Carolina Army National Guard, and as the proud parent of an Iraq
veteran. Please be assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind when
making decisions regarding the Iraq War.

It is an honor to represent the people of the Second
Congressional District of South Carolina, and I value your input.

If I may be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
Very Truly Yours,

Joe Wilson
Member of Congress

1. The 2nd District needs to get a GOOD Democrat to run
and fully SUPPORT him or her. The last Democratic candidate to run against Joe Wilson raised like $40 and Joe Wilson knows that. Last election Joe Wilson and his chief of staff were canvassing for Ralph Norman in York Co. that is how comfortable he is with his seat.

Good job in writing a letter! Now join the County Party to help get things done and to remind them the Democratic Party needs a bench to run with.

2. a man has to know his limitations
District 2 is hard core GOP. I mean hard core. It is beyond a two-to-one ratio in registered voters. While the area keeps growing, there are no signs of that ever changing as many of the communities are well established and only seem to attract more of the same. This area single handedly helped Gov Sanford get re-elected. He was extremely vulnerable last year and had a real fight on his hands. The landscape here has the cards stacked against anyone other than a GOP making it. Just the way it is.
