Inez beats Beasley
SCDP Chair Joe Erwin tonight congratulated Inez Tenenbaum on securing the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.

"Inez was once again the top vote-getter in the state," said SCDP Chair Joe Erwin. "She beat every single Republican on the ticket, and this is further proof that South Carolina Democrats are energized, organized, and ready to win in November."

Inez won her 2002 race for Superintendent of Education with nearly 60 percent of the vote, more than any Republican or Democrat running statewide that year. In 2002, Inez outpolled Senator Lindsey Graham by 45,000 votes.

Democratic U.S. Senate Primary (98 percent reporting)

Inez Tenenbaum: 122,989
Ben Frazier: 39,297

Republican U.S. Senate Primary (98 percent reporting)

David Beasley: 106,865
Jim DeMint 76,946
Thomas Ravenel 72,254
Charlie Condon 27,117
Mark McBride 6,417
Orly Benny Davis 1,895

1. that is good, but
it looks like overall turnout was higher in the GOP primary than the democratic primary--they must have had a more competitive race.

2. I recommended dailykos to endorse
I hope she keeps the seat in the Dem column. Also, saw polling data that Kerry and Bush are running very close, is this a vet issue? pleasantly surprised, good luck from MI

3. Primary Results
Inez really has some 'splaining to do in order to securely win the
nomination in November. By looking at the primary results Inez is
definitely not representing some. In 4 counties (Marion, Kershaw,
Jasper, Bamberg) the other candidate who spent absolutely no money
or time campaigning got 100% of the Democratic vote. And then in
Allendale he got 49% of the vote. I know that she has her own plans
or whatever and probably is banking on the collective attitude of
hold your nose and vote but I think it is the fact that politicians
rely on that attitude that has gotten democrats in the position
their in.

4. Black Box Voting?
I noticed those funny returns as well. Whenever I see a report that a candidate has won 100 percent of the vote in a county, I get suspicious.

I don't trust the election commission website on those 4 counties. I think the County Election Commission reported the TOTAL number of votes without breaking it down by candidate, and those numbers somehow got on the website.

In fact, I just checked and the election commission has now fixed its website. Inez won ALL of the counties you mentioned by handsome margins.

Bamberg: Inez 568, Frasier 218
Kershaw: Inez 806, Frasier 119
Jasper: Inez 2173, Frasier 1328
Marion: Inez 5617, Frasier 2109

And the 49 percent Frasier won in Allendale looks like a product of extremely weak turnout, since slightly more than 150 people voted in the entire county.

Allendale: Inez 79, Frasier 76

You can't win every vote, and Inez winning by a 3 to 1 margin counts as a landslide in my book.
