Casey enters U.S. Senate race; Hafer withdraws
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05063/466443.stm

Pennsylvania State Treasurer Robert P. Casey Jr. announced today that he would challenge U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum for his seat in 2006, likely setting up one of the most closely watched races in the country next year.

And clearing the way for Casey, former Treasurer Barbara Hafer today announced she would pull out of the race just days after she announced her candidacy.

Casey, a Democrat who opposes abortion rights, has long been eyed by the Democratic leadership as a formidable challenger for Santorum, who is the No. 3 Republican leader in the Senate. Prominent Democrats including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Sen. Charles E. Schumer of New York pressured Casey to run and met with him in Washington last month.

Even at this early stage, a Feb. 16 poll from Quinnipiac University suggested a close contest between Casey and Santorum, a leader among conservative Republicans. The poll found that Casey led Santorum 46 to 41 percent. About 52 percent of the people polled said they approved of the job Santorum was doing in the Senate and 31 percent disapproved.

1. Guess I know what I'll be doing Sept-Nov 2006
Knocking on thousands of doors in PA for Casey, calling thousands of Pennsylvanians, and generally working my ass off.

I worked for Kerry there and, on election night, just assumed that it would be the same in other "battleground" states. Unfortunately, I was wrong......

5. Don't hold your breath
Please, I am a pro-choice Dem supporting Casey. He is our ONLY chance. He has been called by Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid. We need to send Prick Santorum packing to his eventual lobbyist job.

6. Come on, Casey's probably not going to overturn Roe. V. Wade
but Santorum might...and then some. pRick wants to be president someday. Do you want to take that chance? Because I don't. It's very important that we defeat pRick Santorum becuase he is not just anti-choice, he's anti-life.

7. Clarification
No...Prick Santorum is not anti-life...he's just anti poor life. Anti regular-Joe life. Anti Average-American life. He's all in favor of life for the rich elite scumbags he truly represents.

8. He's anti-poor, anti-worker, anti-gay, anti-freedom,
and anti-paying his fair share of his children's tuition. That piece of shit made the good people of Penn Hills pay for his kids education when he actually lives in Leesburg, Virginia! And it's not like he can't afford it or anything. He's a rich guy and illegally took about $100,000 of hard-working taxpayer tuition money. $100,000 is peanuts to a guy like Santorum who is literally bought and paid for by wealthy corporate interests.

His constituents are corporations.

That guy just has to go. :grr:

9. I Don't Disagree With A Thing You Have Said Here
And, as a transgender woman, I AM ANTI-SANTORUM!!!!

That little bastard would probably sooner shoot me than acknowledge my right to equal protection under the law, and equal status in the eyes of the law. Fuck him. He's gone. anything I can legally do to get his ass removed from Washington, I'm gonna do it!

I'm not kidding. One week from next Monday I physically arrive in Monroe County, to stay. And if ANY group fighting Santorum needs help, you make sure to contact me. I wanna be a part of sending his ass packing!
