Game Commission must cut $3 million

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials are searching for ways to trim $3 million from the agency's $68.8 million budget between now and June 30.
The agency, faced with a declining timber revenue and two large, unanticipated expenses, today will meet with high-level staff to make final decisions on budget cuts that could affect the state's sportsmen.

Vern Ross, executive director of the agency, declined to discuss any cuts that are under consideration, pointing out that all discussions to date have been preliminary. Ross said, however, that he does not anticipate the need to lay off any employees.

Agency officials said they plan to cover the shortfall by trimming expenses and limiting programs. Specific details will be announced later, perhaps as soon as this week.

I hate to see this happen to the Game Commission...I didn't realize so much of their revenue came from timber.
