2. Everything to be cut except the legislature and prisons

Lots of painful cuts proposed in the State budget, including to state parks, public libraries, pre-school education, etc.

1,000 state workers could lose their jobs, in addition to the 800 layoffs that already occurred. If Congress doesn't come through with the promised Medicare funding, it will be much much worse.

Guess what part of the State budget is only proposed to be cut by 1%? Answer: The State Legislature

The leadership is predicting that many Democratic legislators from southeastern PA and other suburban areas will not support this budget because of the size of the cutbacks. Therefore, Rendell needs lots of Republican votes in order to get it passed.

3. Been looking at this worksheet for the better part of the morning

I work for an agency that is 95% state funded.

Not as bad as we had feared but not the best either.

The state's population is aging faster than most other states. There's a cut coming of around 2% overall in the budget.

4. Budget passed Senate 12 hours after it became public

The budget was just passed by the Republican controlled Senate - about 12 hours after any member of the public may have been able to see it.
