Kevin Miller smack-down on KDKA!
I didn't hear the whole story, but apparently Kevin Miller on KDKA got smacked down by the Obama campaign. From what we could assertain (didn't hear the actual memo put out by CBS, their parent company), because of Miller's extreme partisan comments, KDKA has made a deal with the Obama campaign to offer Obama the opportunity to co-host one of Miller's 3 hour segments. Miller is sickening to listen to; he constantly says that *Bush will be known as one of the best presidents in American history.:puke: He has been pounding on Obama harder than ever recently. You can smell the fear and desperation from the Repukes.

I checked the KDKA website and there's nothing posted, but I'm sure all the right-wingers will be talking about it. Fred was yapping about how HE won't back down. Miller, when he signed off today, sounded close to tears. We heard several callers: one who laughed like the mechanical lady at Kenneywood, another who called and said that he should have been fired long ago.

HA! HA! HA! :woohoo: :applause: :woohoo: :applause:

1. Hallelujah!
Hopefully KDKA will get rid of that sleaze ball and give Lynn Cullen his spot. Oh and Hons-man can go too.

Thanks for posting this good news :toast:.

3. I just got a call from a Pittsburgh relative, ranting about communism...
all I could get was "KDKA" "free air time for Obama" and "can't criticize Obama."

I Googled but didn't find anything. Glad I came here. :)

Please post any further information. I'd love to get the specifics to call this relative back about and shut her up. :)

5. OMG!
Thanks for the details. From what we heard today, we figured it was something like this. How long do you think he'll last after this debacle??

Please oh please let him be replaced by Lynn Cullen (my 1st pick) or Rick Bergman (I work with him in his day job. He is a FANTASTIC talk radio host).

6. Here's an article from the P-G:
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08290/920252-42.stm
<snip>
In all fairness ...
Talk radio isn't exactly known for its lack of bias, but during yesterday's Kevin Miller show on KDKA-AM (1020), the concept of fairness appeared to have won a skirmish.

In a segment that could have been either stunt or statement, KDKA executive producer P.J. Kumanchik read an announcement from CBS management addressing accusations that talk host Miller, whose show airs from noon to 3 p.m., is unfairly biased against Sen. Barack Obama's campaign.

Citing a number of e-mails and phone calls from listeners criticizing Miller, Kumanchik offered Democratic presidential candidate Obama a three-hour air shift, usurping Miller's air time.

"We want to apologize to listeners who have found your show offensive," Kumanchik told Miller on the air.

Kumanchik also said the complaints included the use of unapproved audio clips, including the theme from the TV series "The Jeffersons," and unobjective guests. In the spirit of equal time, John McCain would also be able to have a three-hour solo show.
<snip>

So, they're also offering three hours of free time to McCain? Apparently, this was just a stunt after all. :eyes:

8. Info from local liberal blog 2 Political Junkies

Is something happening at KDKA?

I happen to be home today (don't ask - it's not a pretty story) but afternoon radio-guy Kevin Miller's been saying for an hour or so that there will be an on-air meeting with a member of the CBS management at 2pm today. They will, according to Miller, discussing the direction of the show.

No other details available.

UPDATE 2:08: Statement from the parent company read on the air. In response to a number of complaints about the tone/content of the show regarding Senator Obama's campaign, Senator Obama will be hosting the Kevin Miller show for one three hour show at some time in the future.

Obama will host the show with no input from Miller.

At the end of the statement, KDKA apologises to anyone offended by the Kevin Miller show.

UPDATE 2:51: Trying to get a copy of the statement. Once I can, I'll post it here. On the radio Kevin's listeners are comparing KDKA's decision to Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

More On Kevin Miller's Show

Yesterday, we reported that there was something afoot at KDKA.

Adrian McCoy (and with such a name do you do a Rocky reference or a Star Trek reference?) has the story in today's P-G:
Talk radio isn't exactly known for its lack of bias, but during yesterday's Kevin Miller show on KDKA-AM (1020), the concept of fairness appeared to have won a skirmish.

In a segment that could have been either stunt or statement, KDKA executive producer P.J. Kumanchik read an announcement from CBS management addressing accusations that talk host Miller, whose show airs from noon to 3 p.m., is unfairly biased against Sen. Barack Obama's campaign.

Kumanchik also said the complaints included the use of unapproved audio clips, including the theme from the TV series "The Jeffersons," and unobjective guests.

In the spirit of equal time, John McCain would also be able to have a three-hour solo show.

I think, though, that given the close proximity to the election, Senator McCain would have to be offered equal time.

I still don't think it was a stunt. It sounds too complicated. It was fun, though, to listen to a humbled Kevin Miller.

7. I only hear a few minutes of Miller when I'm in car at lunch
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 05:19 PM by RamboLiberal
what a piece of shit. Loves to play Obama "Merci Beaucoup" clip when Obama said Americans need to learn other languages. Of course Miller being the dumbass shit he is thinks that's being elitist.

John Steigerwald is just as bad, inviting every piece of crap loonie with already disproven crap like Corsi and others to spill their wildass theories on Obama. Steigerwald was still peddling the birth certificate is false and Obama campaigned for Odinga in Kenya.

There's rumors that KDKA was for sale...though read recently it wasn't true. Also rumors at end of year KDKA is going to revamp its lineup.

They bragged about their signal. Supposed to be 50,000 watts and used to reach all over Eastern US at night. No more. Hell at night I can't hear them if I'm out of Allegheny County.

I do intend to write them after Obama is elected if they continue to air these racist bastards trying to tear down the new president.

Marty Griffin whom I'm not a fan of has at least exposed a bit of the crap though he won't challenge his coworkers. He actually played most of the Joe the Plumber with Obama clip, and he has exposed the false crap being peddled about Obama. The RW loonie listeners are really giving him grief.

KDKA has become a total embarassment to Pittsburgh.

On edit after reading 2 Political Junkies blog - I think I'm going to move up that letter to the program manager at KDKA with cc to CBS. Steigerwald should go down as well.

9. Was Miller's KDKA-AM reprimand just a stunt?
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08291/920548-42.stm

<snip>
Miller apologized yesterday for comments he made on-air regarding being censored after the Wednesday segment.

KDKA program director Marshall Adams would not comment on what the station's intent was in airing Wednesday's segment, or whether it was a promotional stunt.

Some listeners called in to object to what they felt was censorship. The blogosphere was full of speculation regarding whether Miller was being taken off the air.

Others thought it seemed more like a media stunt. When station management has a problem with a host, they don't typically call him or her on to the carpet over the airwaves. Miller also is known for staging various publicity stunts. Last month, for example, he kissed a lipstick-wearing pig outside KDKA's studios after Obama came under fire when using the phrase "lipstick on a pig" when referring to promises the McCain/Palin camp made to reform Washington.
<snip>

I still think this is a stunt. Over the many many, years that right-wing hate has been spewed over KDKA's airwaves, they've almost certainly recieved tons of emails and phone calls expressing disapproval of Miller, Honsberger, Limbaugh, et al. Why would they now, all of a sudden, decide to publicly reprimand an employee who is no worse than any of their other filth-mongers?? It's just not believable to me.

Back in 1996, just before the election,Limbaugh announced that he'd had a change of heart and was now going to vote for Bill Clinton. He devoted an entire show to explaining the reasons why he was doing this. His callers went crazy - stunned, sputtering, crying, etc. At the end of the show he announced that it had all been just a big joke.

I think this is just more of the same. They know Obama is going to win, there's no real controversy in the race to attract listeners, so they pulled some hare-brained stunt to get people to tune in.

10. Marty Griffin spilled the beans and said it was a stunt
When an angry wingnut called in and accused the station of limiting Miller.

Google last night revealed many of the Wingnut blogs took this seriously and a preview of the Fairness Doctrine coming back in an Obama admnistration.

12. I haven't listened to KDKA...
...in at least 6 months. As a 30 something, I don't feel like part of their demographic. I used to harass Honsberger all the time. Is Chris Moore still on? Mike Romigh was pretty good too.

13. Chris Moore is the only sanity left on that station
Course they limit the one black liberal leaning Chris to 4-9 Sundays. I have no clue why they couldn't give him back Saturday night after all their failed experiments there including Dmitri.
