Anyone listening to congressional candidates at the Allegheny Democratic forums?
I attended one in Jefferson Hills about a week ago. I've been hearing some talk about Beth Haffer on this group, but I'm still convinced we have a far better candidate in Steve O'Donnell.

Don't take MY word for it... go to his website to look and listen to what are HIS biggest issues... they not only echo the issues I've seen over and over on DU, he states them better than ANY of those candidates I saw in Jefferson Hills. I personally would like more women in congress, speaking as one... however....

We need to beat Tim Murphy. AND THIS is the guy who will do it...

1. A Concerned demorcatic voter...
As a life long Democrat, I CAN NOT AND WILL NOT support Steve O'Donnell because I checked him out as you recommended, and he has kept secret from everyone that he was pretty much terminated or forced out by a company in 1996 due to "rampant mismanagement".

The Board forced O’Donnell out in 1996 apparently for that exact reason. Westmoreland Human Opportunities started overseeing LSS in Sept 1996 & immediately bailed out of overseeing troubled LSS in October 1996, after learning the “intimate details” of Life Service Systems financial situation. LSS shortly thereafter had to file for bankruptcy on 1/14/1997 under recommendation from the newly appointed Board (by Adelphoi).

Public assistance grant funding of over $1.3 million was secured by LSS from HUD in October 1995 for an LSS housing project, while matching funds were secured as a pre-condition to the HUD grant from United Way ($100,000), the Mellon Foundation ($150,000), and Westmoreland Housing Authority ($25,000)...imagine the attorney fees these organizations had to expend in this debacle.

Here's a link that shows Mr. O'Donnell as the president of Life Service
Systems, Inc. http://www.manta.com/coms2/dnbcompany_fjghg2

At the first of the year in 1997, LSS had to file for bankruptcy, #97-20226-BM
in the Western PA Federal Bankruptcy court. Check out this appeals link from the bankruptcy court:

http://www.pawb.uscourts.gov/pdfs/opinions/06-20-02.BM.LifeServiceSystems.97-20226.AP98-2082.pdf

Notice that only months after receiving the HUD grant and matching funds totaling
over 1.3 million dollars…LSS experienced "financial and administrative" problems in 1996. You just don't develop bankruptcy over night and wake up with it the next morning…which again leads back to highly suspect issues of severe mis-management.

O’Donnell does not include reference to Life Service Systems, Inc. under the “About Steve” link on his webpage. Nor does Steve O’Donnell include any reference to Professional Life Services, which in the Bankruptcy court documents under Case No. #97-20226-BM… Professional Life Services is listed as having the same address, ironically as Steve O’Donnell. Why is Professional Life Services also not disclosed? Also, I wonder how much of the taxpayer’s money Westmoreland County had to pay in attorney fees during this debacle.

We need a strong, ethical candidate who will take Tim Murphy to task on ethics as well as positions, not a candidate who has something to hide and has not disclosed this information. And that's just briefly checking into O’Donnell... imagine what Tim Murphy will come up with when he probes into Steve O’Donnell. Feel free to check out any of these court documents.

2. Steve O'Donnell
Hi - I'm Steve O'Donnell, a Democratic candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania's 18th District and the target of the anonymous attack from PADEMJES12.

It's sad when supporters of candidates who see their support slipping away start resorting to character assassination and the anonymous dissemination of blatantly false and incorrect information. The anonymity of such slanderous postings provides safety from what would otherwise be the basis for legal action.

Let me set the record straight in the hope that we can put an end to these types of old-school anonymous attacks.

First -- PADEMJES12 got it wrong. The not-for profit agency that I ran and dedicated 8 years of my life to -- helped thousands of mentally handicapped individuals. I ran this agency until a period of upheaval on the Board of Directors which was marked by in-fighting and a successful attempt by a new majority to take control.

After they succeed in taking over control, I was removed. At the time I was removed by these new board members - the agency was operating on a sound financial basis with no fiscal problems.

Sometime AFTER my departure and after several changes in management at the agency -- the agency was put into bankruptcy. Their bankruptcy had nothing to do with my management of the agency. The bankruptcy occurred after I was removed by this renegade group of new board members.

The Bankruptcy Court appointed a trustee who successfully sued all those involved in disrupting the agency. I was appointed by the Bankruptcy Court to sit on the unsecured creditors committee to help straighten out the mess left by the personnel the Board had hired to run the agency after my forced departure.

At one point the trustee accused those involved with fraud. The resulting payments, which were awarded, ran into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. I was never implicated by anyone for any wrong doing whatsoever. I was not a party to any of the lawsuits or bankruptcy findings.

The Internet is a great place and blogs are tremendous tools for people to interact and exchange ideas. It is sad when people of questionable motivation use this medium as a tool to spread lies and try to assassinate candidates while they hide under the cover of an anonymous blog post.

Here's my website: www.electodonnell.com Please reject these negative attacks from the shadows. Join my fight against the Congressional allies of the Bush/Cheney assault on our families. Please join my fight to defeat Tim Murphy and help us end the War in Iraq and put us back on the right track where the economy - job creation and our families and domestic needs become our top priorities.

3. I just wanted to thank you for being interested in the DU community!

It won't be necessary for you to respond to my comment, but I please understand.... this above post coincided with my 6th sense on this board. A sure sign of "posers", in my book are people with a low "posting" count, who then drop down on certain threads like a bad rain storm.

I wondered about Mr. P, as he, like some others don't ordinarily post as a member of the DU community. They pretty much are limited, with one particular thing in mind. I'm frankly sick of it. I like intellectual discussion. He may not be tomb stoned, but, on the other hand, I think he was served.

Thanks for posting!!! I'm honored! GO STEVE O'DONNELL!!! :bounce:
