IT'S NUTTER, BY PLENTY
Philadelphia Inquirer 11/07/07
Former City Councilman Michael Nutter - the reformist policy wonk with a ferocious work ethic - was elected mayor of Philadelphia yesterday.

Nutter, 50, was widely expected to easily wallop weak Republican opponent Al Taubenberger and he did. With 96 percent of the vote counted, Nutter won 82.5 percent of the vote, compared with 17 percent for Taubenberger.

Soon Nutter will be packing his boxes for City Hall's room 215. In January he's taking over a city battling a devastating homicide rate, weakened by underfunded schools and facing a looming budget crisis.

1. I'm liking Nutter - I hope he can clean up Street's mess
I know Street was a democrat but I thought he was a bit of a corrupt thug to boot. Glad I wasn't living in Philadelphia so I wouldn't have to decide to vote democrat or just not vote.

But everything I read about Nutter is really positive and I think he'll make a great mayor and hopefully return the city back to the Rendall years. Corruption & Crime is just out of control right now under Street

2. Here's a suburban toast to Philly's promising new mayor!
I've lived in a couple cities with good mayors -- New York with Ed Koch, Detroit with Coleman Young -- and I have great hopes for Philly with Michael Nutter.

Although disappointed in results for suburban elections, I hope Montgomery and Chester county Republicans are smart enough to work with Nutter on regional issues.
