Republicans appeared on their way to maintaining control of the four county courthouses in the Philadelphia suburbs despite determined opposition yesterday.
Democrats give the strongholds a fight.
Voter turnout was much lower than in even-numbered years when federal and state offices are at stake. Pollsters interpret that as a reflection of general satisfaction with county government.
Despite their dashed hopes in the courthouse races, most analysts expect Democrats to continue to show strength in state and national races in Southeastern Pennsylvania, and for the region to remain pivotal.
