End: Mar 19 2007 - 6:30pm
Timezone: Etc/GMT-8

"No More Invasions, No More Wars:
The Occupation of Iraq, Four Years Later"
Dual-opportunity action
Monday, March 19, 2007
Terry Schrunk Plaza, SW 3rd and Madison, Portland
12:00 noon-2 PM: Lunchtime Demonstration
4 PM-6:30 PM: Evening Visibility Action
and Message to the Iraqi People

The Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group is working on a two-part
action to take place on Monday, March 19, 2007, exactly 4 years after the
US invasion of Iraq. Both will take place at Terry Schrunk Plaza, SW 3rd
and Madison. The first will go from 12 noon to 2 PM to gather the
lunchtime crowds together. The evening event will run from 4 PM to 6:30 PM
and will culminate with an oversize message to be transmitted to the Iraqi
people. The day is being titled "No More Invasions, No More Wars: The
Occupation of Iraq, Four Years Later."

In addition to continuing the current calls to bring all the troops home
from Iraq, these events will also act to call for:

--Money for jobs, health care, education, housing and the environment--not
war.
--End the US occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, and the US-supported
Israeli occupations of the West Bank and Gaza
--Reject the "Long War on Terror" and say no to military action in Iran,
Syria, North Korea, Somalia, or anywhere else under that banner
--Close the US prison camp at Guantanamo Bay and end the assault on civil
liberties at home

For more information contact the PJW Iraq Affinity Group at 503-236-3065
or iraq@pjw.info.

This event is cosponsored by Women in Black, Families for Peace, American
Iranian Friendship Council, Portland Peaceful Response Coalition, Women's
International League for Peace and Freedom/Portland and others. It is
endorsed by Northwest Veterans for Peace, East Timor Action
Network/Portland, Back 2 the WALL, Oregon Wildlife Federation, and others.

activities for the 19th, cosponsors and endorsers, a downloadable flyer,
and other information at http://www.pjw.info/march1907annct.html .

6. I'll try to make it.
I'm definitely going to the rally/march, but with all the other stuff I've got going on today, I'll be running around like a chicken with its head cut off!

7. I just got this e-mail from a member of a nonpolitical Yahoo group I belong to
"I'm here at work, watching a huge peace rally outside my office windows. I have a great view, I see them on 2nd and then after they've turned the corner onto Washington It's been going on for 20 minutes or so. It's so wonderful to see. I wish I could be out there with them, but I'm certainly in solidarity with them. There are helicopters flying overhead, photographing it for local news coverage, I expect. Good. I hope it brings the awareness of this stupid war back into peoples' minds.

"There's are HUGE "puppet" (each held up by about five people) of white doves of peace ... wonderful.

"This rally is still going on .... it's been over half an hour that the streets have been closed to allow them to go through ...

"Now there are some cheerleader sorts with a Peace cheer ...

"This is the end of it, I think. There are cars now on 2nd.

"I am so glad I got to watch it!!"

8. I got pics!
I'll really try to get them posted tonight. :)

It was great! The anarchy kids caused some trouble afterwards, but only a few arrests, and no real violence.

Viva, I didn't get your PM until after I got back. I looked and looked for you guys, but didn't spot you. Oh well. That just means the turnout was great!

11. LTTE in The Oregonian!
Hey, I wrote a letter chastising them for focusing on the anarchy kids, instead of all the peaceful protesters, and they printed it! Who'd 'a thunk?
