Oregon legislative alert: move SB 1000 to a floor vote in the House
Minnis is sitting on SB 1000. Time to push.

FIGHT FOR SB 1000 IN THE OREGON HOUSE. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE NOW!
The Oregon Senate has cast its historic vote in support of SB 1000, which would create civil unions for same-sex couples and prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Now the fight moves to the Oregon House where Speaker Karen Minnis has pledged to kill the bill.

We believe that if brought to a vote on the House floor, SB 1000 will pass. SB 1000 is supported by the Oregon Senate, the Governor and a majority of Oregonians.

Call your representatives now and urge them to support SB 1000 and call on Speaker Minnis to bring it to an up or down vote on the House floor immediately.

One person should not stand in the way of a discrimination-free Oregon. Call your lawmaker now!

2. Work on the moderate Rs
Minnis isn't going to budge. Everyone knows that if SB1000 gets out of the House, the guv will sign it. Civil unions are widely supported, so it is very doubtful that it will be overturned by referendum. Stopping it in the House is the homophobes only chance.

Minnis has no incentive to let it come to a vote. If she does and it passes, the Christian Wrong will crucify her. If she puts it to a vote and it fails, she's right back where she is now, except that the Christian Wrong is STILL upset at her not thumbing her nose at the Dems and for taking the chance. (Take a look at all the freepers pissed at getting Owens, et al confirmed with a normal vote instead of getting her confirmed via the nuclear option.)

Gotta find 4 Rs to openly break ranks and force the issue. Gotta pressure her from the right or she has no reason to care.
