OSU students organizing protest for Bush speech
By APRIL MARCISZEWSKI World Staff Writer
4/22/2006

Oklahoma State University students expect several hundred people to protest President Bush when he speaks at graduation May 6.

Student organizer John McLaughlin thinks Bush chose to speak at OSU in part because Oklahomans overwhelmingly voted to re-elect him in 2004. McLaughlin wants Bush to know "he's not safe from criticism -- from disapproval -- anywhere."

Another student organizer, Holly Licht, said students including liberals, libertarians and those who have lost family members to the Iraq war plan to participate. Licht said organizations from across the state have told her they are interested in joining.

The protest is planned for 8 a.m. the day of graduation. Students expect to get a permit from OSU for the event on May 1, when the Secret Service arrives in Stillwater to check the area, McLaughlin said. Tulsa Peace Fellowship leader Nancy Moran said she is sending mass e-mails about the protest. One member of the group offered to rent a bus to take people to Stillwater. Those who are interested may call Moran at 857-1206 or may e-mail tulsapeace@hotmail.com.
----------------

summary of rest in my words:

One student said it was all political, but if he really cared he wouldn't be cutting student loans
Another student says she is skipping graduation and wants to set an example for other students by speaking out. SHe is the first of 13 grandchildren to graduate from college, and her family is uspet that whe won't go, but stands behind her decision to make a statement.
