2. No.
He has pissed off too many yelladawg Democrats in Oklahoma. We are fed up with his lies, his support for Bush, and his love of power. Many good Democrats in donut shopd across Oklahoma are saying they will not vote in the Senate race.

6. No vote

Not voting for Carson is as good as a vote for Humphreys, imo. And as much as I have problems with Carson's views, I can't help but believe he is a far superior choice to Humphreys.

11.  He is pretty far to the right.
But on a few critical issues he is out of the league of any Republican, and if he were a centrist or leftist he wouldn't have a prayer.

He is Native American and can trace his family to the Trail of Tears, that will matter. He is a Rhodes Scholar and as smart as they come. His election would triple the IQ of the Oklahoman Senatorial delegation.

18. Right on, RoyGBiv...
I think it's pretty clear that we have a strong shot at Carson becoming our next Senator... as good Dems our task should be to do everything we can to make that happen... later we can do everything we can to keep him honest...

I just wish he was running to replace Inhofe, rather than Nickles... Inhofe's the guy we really need out... Nickles is just more of a nuisance... but i degress...

20. Inhofe and stuff
I totally agree there. While I can't think of a single vote Nickels has made I agree with, he is at least competent and acts more like a politician representing constituents. Inofe is a self-proclaimed holy warrior, an idiot ... oh the descriptive phrases and words could just roll on for days.

I met Inhofe a few times when he was first running. The man scared the crap out of me, but I was naive enough I guess to think he didn't have a chance of getting elected. I met him because I had a friend who was pretty heavy into the county Republican political machine, and he'd been trying for years to turn me. Never came close to working, but it was interesting sometimes to see the inner-workings of their party. And what struck me was that they didn't seem to like Inhofe. My friend called him a nutjob.

Anyway, I just hope the DNC gets behind Carson and throws him some help. We've got a real chance to take back the Senate, and we need to work hard at it. Earlier in the race I thought Humphreys was a lock as the Repub candidate, but now it looks like Coburn could well take it, and Coburn will be a tougher opponent. If Coburn gets elected, he and Inhofe combined would be just frightening to behold. It may well be the last push for me to move out of this state altogether.

I'm new to DU, so please bear with me. I support Carson if for no other reason than that Oklahoma deserves a Senator who was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford. It'd do wonders for dissipating the stereotype of the "dumb Okie".
I'm retired, so don't have a lot of cash resources; however, I'll send Carson's campaign what I can spare. The plus side of being retired, is that I have some spare time. I've checked out the Noble County list of Democratic voters from the County Election Board, and am going to contact as many Demo voters as possible. I hope to get plugged into Kerry Campaign Headquarters so I can get campaign contribution envelopes, bumper stickers, etc. and forward them to responsive Demos.
The mega-buck ads are glitzy and impressive, but I feel it's old-fashioned, knock-on-the-door volunteers who will excite the undecided. We don't have the Republicans' deep pockets, so it's up to us--the rank and file--to pry our asses off the couch, and shake our neighbor's hand.

23. Carson rejects Oklahoma Veteran Vote
Today the Carson coordinated campaign rejected the funding of a state wide Veteran Coordinator for Oklahoma. The State wide coordinator told me today the Carson people have decided not to go after the Veteran vote and will not hire a Veteran coordinator.

I was told Carson will not work with the Band of Brothers for Kerry. That's being a good Democrat Brad.

Oklahoma Rep. Brad Carson is one of only 11 Democrats who voted for every trade agreement negotiated by the Bush administration.

3. Anybody get a recorded message from David Walters today?
The OKGOP are up to something fishy.

A bill has been introduced in the House that Walters described only as "anti-civil rights" (I'm thinking anti-gay marriage perhaps)the sole pupose of which is to increase right-wing voter turn out.

Anybody know anything about this?

5. Anti-Gay Marriage
The Oklahoma congress is considering a bill that amends the OK constitution that would prohibit any laws that recognize same-sex marriages as legitimate. IOW, if you were a same-sex couple married in a state that allows it and moved to OK, your union would not be recognized in OK. This has already passed the state Senate.

Today (erm, yesterday 04/19) the lobbying group run by Keith Smith was getting people together who oppose the measure for meetings with their representatives to express their displeasure.

7. Carson ran on a very liberal platform
Chebon Marshall, Carson's Chief of Staff, at last weekends convention of Oklahoma Democratic Women said, "Brad Carson has spent more time in the Oval Office with President Bush, than any other Democrat Congressman and most Republican Congressmen."

I can't support anyone like that. He is not a Democrat in my book. I don't care what his voter registration says, he is NOT a Democrat.

12. Call from Carson
This was weird.

I came in a bit ago, and there's a message on my answering machine from Carson's campaign people. I'd left a rather length e-mail with them a few days ago when the story ran in the Tulsa World in which Carson was quoted as saying something about Bush having done a good job with his prime time speech under difficult circumstances. My letter was polite, but forceful, and I asked them to clarify for me how anyone with a brain (I didn't word it this way) could see *that* speech as a "good job" by any sane measure.

Anyway, at best I expected a form e-mail in return, but I didn't really expect that. I'm a nobody, and candidates never send me anything except their form letters, if that. But, I got this call, and the guy gave me his phone number to call him back, saying he wanted to discuss this with me, that he wanted to clarify those remarks, and that he felt that given my expressed views on the war, I would be more satisfied with Mr. Carson's position without the filter of news media.

I'm skeptical, but still. I'm rather impressed they took the time. I haven't called back yet, but I think I will.

Just thought I'd mention it for anyone who is interested in this campaign.

13. That's great

It's good that you got a response from his campaign and they are interested in what you have to say.

I don't envy anyone trying to run on a Democratic ticket in this conservative environment we have in this state. It has to be an endless series of compromises and aggravation.

14. Carson isn't THAT bad
I'm going to vote for Monte Johnson in the primary, but I have no problems voting for Carson in the general election. Despite what some people say, if you compare him with the other Congressmen in Oklahoma, he is head and shoulders above them.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with Americans for Democratic Action
(ADA) Based on his 2003 votes, Carson took the preferred liberal position 65% of the time.

This chart doesn't translate with with cut and paste, but go to the website to see it better. + means voted the liberal position.

2 Carson, B. D + + + + ? ? - + + + + + + - + + + - - - 65%
4 Cole R - - - - - - - - - - + - - - - - - - - - 5%
5 Istook R - - - - - - - ? - - + - - + - - - - - - 10%
3 Lucas, F. R - - - - - - - - - - + - + - - - - - - - 10%
1 Sullivan R - - - - - - - - - - ? ? - - ? - - - - - 0%

My congressman has a freaking ZERO.....I hate Sullivan.

Nice guy. But he worked on Joe Lieberman's campaign, and it totally made me not like him immediately when the guy said that Joe's a good guy. :puke: Anyway, I don't know about Brad yet. I'd like to sit down with him and ask him some questions.
