"Senator Zurz Elected Assistant Minority Leader of Ohio Senate

COLUMBUS – Today, State Senator Kimberly Zurz (D-GREEN) was elected Assistant Minority leader of the Ohio Senate by the members of her Caucus. By holding this influential position of the 2nd highest ranking Democratic Senator, Senator Zurz will help drive the policies and agendas of the Democratic Caucus.

“This role is a tremendous honor and responsibility, and I am determined to provide leadership and counsel to serve not only my constituents, but my colleagues as well,” said Senator Zurz. “The Senate Democrats have a proven track record of standing up for the people of Ohio, and promoting values that will make Ohio’s future a brighter one. I am proud to be in the leadership team to continue those goals.”

She will join other leaders of the caucus including Senate Minority Leader C.J. Prentiss of Cleveland, Minority Whip Teresa Fedor of Toledo, and Assistant Minority Whip Robert F. Hagan of Youngstown.

The leadership election was held after Senator Mark Mallory resigned after winning the election for Mayor of Cincinnati.

Senator Zurz was appointed in August 2003 to replace former Senator Leigh Herington. Since that time she has been a strong advocate for education and economic development in the Senate, serving as the Ranking Member on the Senate’s Ways and Means Committee.

Prior to her arrival in the Ohio Senate, she served as a Summit County Council member for approximately 11 years, including three terms as Council President.

She represents the 28th Senate District which consists of Portage County and parts of Summit County.
