Yes on Issues 2, 3, 4, and 5 Clean Up Ohio's Vote.
Talk to your friends and neighbors and we can help stop the corruption on all
sides. Nationally this is the first time that citizens have tried a statewide
effort to bring the power of the vote back to the person and away from
parties, corporations, and influence groups. Make your vote count
again.

Issue 2 = vote by mail
Issue 3 = stop big money
Issue 4 = Stop Gerrymandering districts make ALL races more competitive
and make people's vote count once again
Issue 5 = No more Ken Blackwells

www.ReformOhioNow.org

Pissed off by what happened last fall? This our chance to change things.
Repugs are going to pull out all stops to beat these Issues .....
Scare tactics and wedge Issues ....... "They" already have millions to keep
the same corrupt game going.

We have to win big because a close election = a stolen election.

The big boys know that if this passes then real change will happen in
06. These issues will be demonized.

It would be great if some of our more artistic DU'ers could make some graphics too. I'll be plastering my picture window with something as soon as I can get it.

12. More info
Were you at the America Votes training on Saturday? I hope so, because we had over 130 people there! Most were from greater Columbus and Delaware, though we also had folks from Knox County and even as far away as Lima. It was a great event, and a great opportunity to hone our grassroots outreach skills. And boy will we need them. We're at 27 days and counting.

1) We're doing a major VISIBILITY EVENT - This Friday we're doing our first big honk-and-wave event. At the STATEHOUSE! It's basically a mini-rally to show the politicians the support we have in their own backyard! We'll meet at the northwest corner of the statehouse grounds (Broad and High) at 10:30am, and be there for 30-45 minutes. Bring friends! We need a lot of people to make this effective. (Email me to let me know if you can come: dalgoso@commoncause.org.)

2) Door-to-door CANVASSES - As we talked about on Saturday, this is a highly effective tactic because we can target exactly who we talk to, and because face-to-face communication is the most compelling. We kicked it off on Sunday in German Village and Delaware, and want to crank it up a notch for this weekend. Can you give 2-3 hours to help?

• Saturday (10/15) - Clintonville - Meet at Jan Fleming's at 11am (44 E. California Ave, Columbus)
• Saturday (10/15) - Delaware - Meet at Eric Vessel's at 12pm (2206 Dixon St, Delaware)
• Saturday (10/15) - Westgate/Hilltop area - Meet Joe Decker's at 2pm (2904 Crescent Drive, Columbus)
• Sunday (10/16) - Dublin - Meet at J.B. Lawton's at 1pm (4875 Inisheer Court, Dublin)
• Sunday (10/16) - Worthington - Meet at Peggy Yates's at 1pm (273 Weydon Road, Worthington)
• Sunday (10/16) - Gahanna - Meet at Sheryl Williams's at 3pm (658 Bugle Ct, Gahanna)
• Tuesday (10/18) - Bexley - Meet at Carmen Cordova's at 6pm (733 Grandon Ave, Bexley)
• Ongoing - Upper Arlington - Contact Peter Lytle (plytle@columbus.rr.com / 614-893-4603) to get involved

If you can make it to one of these, let me know (dalgoso@commoncause.org / 614-224-2497). Bring friends! The more people we have, the more voters we can contact, and the more we can win. (Also, each walk will start with a short training session, for those who would like some tips on how to talk to folks about these issues. And did I mention that it's going to be sunny and upper 60s all weekend?)

3) Letters to the editor - We're working on getting letters to the editor printed. Contact J.B. Lawton (jbliii@columbus.rr.com / 793-0390) for guidance and help in submitting.

4) And as always, YARD SIGNS - Live on a major road? We especially want to target yard signs on heavily trafficked streets. Contact the person nearest you to find out how to pick one up (see the list below).

Other upcoming events include ongoing canvasses, more honk-and-waves and the Circleville Pumpkin Festival Oct 19-22 (this is a huge festival every year, and our volunteers in Pickaway have requested backup...can you go for a day or two?). Thanks so much,

Dave Algoso

Are people receptive to what you have to say?

There's a lack of communication here in the Dayton area and people who like to be informed are asking (begging) for information.

Another mess???

25. Make Ohio Work Again Canvass
On Tuesday, November 8th, Ohio voters have a chance to reclaim our democracy from big-money special interests by voting YES on Issues 2, 3, 4, and 5. Mike Coleman, Democratic Candidate for Governor, has strongly endorsed Issues 2,3,4 and 5. He's demonstrating his support with a "Make Ohio Work Again!" voter outreach canvass.

Mike has set a goal of 10,000 door knocks this weekend in the Columbus area alone. Coleman supporters will be discussing the importance of voting YES for the RON amendments, as well as electing our endorsed Franklin County Democratic Party candidates.

Reforming Ohio is that simple – progressives who care, taking real action for real reform. But we can’t make this happen without you.

The Ohio Republican Party is pulling out all the stops to misinform and mislead voters about this crucial reform. It’s up to us to stop them!

Join us on Saturday, October 29th, 10am-2pm at 1650 Watermark Drive, Suite 100, Columbus, OH 43215.

Please reserve your spot TODAY for Mike's "Make Ohio Work Again" canvass! Please visit http://www.colemanforohio2006.com/volunteer to sign up!

Talk over the fence, start a conversation in the parking lot. This is an off year election with no big races and we may be able to attain a victory on this if we get our people out. Email your buddies with the text from the original post.

29. Toledo Blade editorial-Yes on State Issues 3, 4, 5
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 12:31 PM by Algorem
http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051030/OPINION02/510300315/-1/OPINION

Article published Sunday, October 30, 2005

Ohioans who are embarrassed by the national attention paid as recently as last year to our clumsy, inefficient, and occasionally unethical elections - and that should be all Ohioans - should be encouraged by a grass-roots initiative that would make the necessary repairs.

While we have already expressed our concerns about State Issue 2 and the problems we see with unlimited absentee voting, we have no such reluctance to support the other three proposals in a constitutional reform package advanced by a citizens group called Reform Ohio Now.

Voters should embrace State Issues 3, 4, and 5 because they represent a great opportunity to fix what ails Ohio's overtly political elections system. They will do that by putting in place reasonable campaign contribution limits, creating a bipartisan commission to establish the boundaries of congressional and legislative districts, and removing oversight of elections from the Secretary of State.

Issue 4 is clearly the most controversial of the R.O.N. proposals, but it is also the most needed. Quite simply, it would end an evil system that perpetuates one-party domination, no matter which party it is, by removing from the dominant party's control the process of setting congressional and legislative district boundaries...

(They no like issue 2-

No on State Issue 2

STATE Issue 2, the proposed "no-fault absentee voting" amendment to the Ohio Constitution, is one of those ideas with the best of intentions - increased voter turnout - but with the potential for the worst of outcomes - manipulated elections.

Issue 2, if passed, will install in Ohio's constitution a provision that would open up absentee voting to every eligible registered voter in the state, for up to 35 days prior to the election. A critical change from current Ohio law would provide that for the first time no applicant would have to give a reason for doing so.

Absentee voting has been long established for one basic reason only - to protect the voting privilege for those citizens who knew in advance that they would be out of their home county on Election Day.

Over the years, of course, it has become something more than that, as Ohioans who don't wish to be bothered to go to the polls simply fib about their Election Day plans, receive an absentee ballot, and vote early by mail...)
