Officials To Break Ground For Steelyard Commons
Union Officials Call Wal-Mart Jobs 'Poverty Jobs'

POSTED: 8:21 am EDT September 29, 2005

CLEVELAND -- Battle lines are being drawn on the day of the groundbreaking for a giant Wal-Mart in Cleveland’s old steel yard.

Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell will be among the city officials grabbing a shovel to help kick off the construction for the largest open-air retail center in Cuyahoga County...

Meryl Johnson, of the Cleveland Teachers Union, said Wal-Mart will create jobs but the jobs will not pay enough to support families.

"A Wal-Mart job is a poverty job," she said. "Clevelanders deserve better."...

Mayor Jane Campbell loves those poverty-job providers:

Jane's at it again
Most people go to Save-A-Lot for the cheap food, but shoppers recently discovered something even cheaper than the creamed corn: Mayor Jane Campbell.

She arrived at the East 125th-St. Clair store to recognize its service to the impoverished community -- providing food at rock-bottom prices so its underpaid, part-time employees can afford it.

Campbell strolled the aisles with manager George Hearst, but it wasn't the blow-out sale on green beans or the wide selection of mustard (brown and yellow) that she was after. She was shopping for photo-ops with real, live black people!...

The mayor presented Hearst with a certificate of recognition; in return, Hearst presented Campbell with a Save-A-Lot jacket -- which, judging from her approval ratings, will come in handy after November.

1. I fucking hate Jane.
:banghead:

I live spittin' distance from Steelyard Commons. That's going to destroy my neighborhood - massively increased traffic, the inevitable shop-closings - ARRRRRGH!

11. She is bought and paid for by local big corporations

If you look at the contributions of the big corporations in the area, they principally go to Jane. They don't need to put forth a Republican when they have Jane. It works out well for them because the city is so heavily Democratic.
