Ohio Military Base Closings
Cleveland was scared that the Navy payroll center in the Federal Building would be closed. There are ~2400 jobs, I recall. Looks like they are closing the "Reserves" centers. I guess that they don't need them since they broke the Reserves and nobody is joining.

Cleveland to lose more than 1,000 jobs

Cleveland will lose 1,013 high-paying civilian jobs and 15 military positions at the Defense Finance and Accounting Services Office in a realignment announced by the Defense Department today.

Another 50 civilian jobs at the DFAS office in the NASA Glenn Research Center also will move elsewhere.

The changes will cost the region more than $50 million in income.
One of the biggest winners in the realignment appears to be the DFAS center in Indianapolis, which will gain 3,378 high-paying jobs. The Defense Supply Center in Columbus is another winner, picking up more than 1,700 jobs.

4. Another transfer from the have nots to the haves
The Columbus area is booming, Cleveland is still losing jobs. We have to reward those who are doing well and punish those who "aren't living up to republican expectations. We have to reward areas that voted for the Shrub and punish the Kerry supporters. I don' t know how much more I can take.

5. I just typed up my LTTE in response to the Kenton base closing.
Yeah it's 10 jobs....(1 civilian and 9 military) but Hardin county can't afford to lose any job as it is.

here is my LTTE

Dear Editor,

I was reading the paper the other day about the recent BRAC announcement and was wondering why on earth anyone would consider closing bases during a time of war, two wars at that. Where is the outrage? 10 jobs might not seem a lot to average Joe but it means a lot for a Hardin County as a whole. I want to know as a concerned citizen where exactly the support lies for our troops. Bases are closing, VA hospitals are closing and yet no one is questioning the Republican control of the House and Senate.
I ask the question again. Why would anyone close military bases in a time of war(s)? Donald Rumsfeld and the Republicans say it will save us $49 billion over 20 years. I have an idea for them, how about getting our troops out of Iraq and protect us here at home and save us $80 billion this year alone! President Bush and the Republicans like to say they support the troops, but how do they show it? They divided us as a country over guns, god and gays and we fall for it hook, line and sinker. What is important to us anymore? We are being lied to everyday, yet we keep falling for the same old bait and switch tactics that President Bush and the Republicans pull on us. 10 jobs here and 100 jobs in another town means nothing to them, and you me mean nothing to them.
I wonder why President Bush and the Republicans are weakening our military? You have to wonder where their priorities are, because last I checked closing bases and VA hospitals and cutting veterans benefits was not supporting the troops.

Sincerely,

WLKjr
