Hayseeds and Hillbillies
I'm ashamed to be from this state anymore, even if by some stroke of luck, Kerry pulls out a victory.

The margin on this idiotic Gay Marriage amendment, and how many pukes won elections within the state make it clear that fear and superstition have prevailed, and indeed, the terrorists have won.

Time to shift my efforts from the campaign to getting my house ready to sell...

1. Mr. Nownow gave me the gut punch on that one last night.
Think about how many Democrats had to vote for that issue, for it to pass. If I weren't agnostic, I'd be ashamed of my religion -- because that's what made a lot of otherwise Democratic voters vote for that issue. It had nothing to do with common sense, kindness, or business sense.

How many more jobs will we lose, I wonder? Mr. Nownow's employer offers partner benefits, and they're a big employer in the area. Wonder if they'll go? Wonder if it'll be anywhere worth moving to?

Hope so. I've spent 36 of my 40 years in this state, but I'm just about done with it.

2. didn't say it was strictly pukes on Issue 1
I realize plenty of Democrats didn't understand Issue 1 and stupidly voted for it, and plenty of Democrats probably crossed the street and voted for * -- I did phone banks several times during the past few weeks, and on lists of supposedly Democratic voters, I was encountering a certain percentage who told me they were voting for *. Now, I think some of them were "wrong numbers" (Dem moves away, phone number gets reassigned, but our voter reg list doesn't get updated) but I think the Swift Liars managed to sway some folks, and fear fear fear swayed others.

"Some people say Hydrogen is the most plentiful element in the universe. I say they're wrong; stupidity is the most plentiful element." -- Frank Zappa

I'm getting close to envying Frank for not being around to see what we've become.

4. Ohio can fight it out
with Mississippi, Alabama and West Virginia for the bottom rung now.

Economy in the shitter and Stark County is almost 50/50. Lawrence County 55% Bush. Meigs, 58% Bush. The poor voting for their own destruction because someone told them they'd lose their rifle.

I sure hope marriage gets stronger now that issue one has passed.

5. I am ashamed of the state as well
Just look at how the rural areas voted, not in their best interest. They voted God and Gays, and not economy, health care, and a thoughtful war on terrorism! Until we can do something about these people who follow their narrow dogma exclusively, we will have to deal with loosing or change focus!

7. I am stunned by the results on Issue 1 and the levys...
My wife and I sat in disbelief as we watched almost every county and township vote NO on their children's future. It was an awful sight.

When did people get the assumption that taxes are a bad thing?

IT IS YOUR F**KING DUES FOR LIVING IN THE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH! You think we got to where we are by not paying taxes.

I'm severly distressed by the turn this country has taken. Now more than ever.

10. In retrospect,
I met many wonderful people working this election.

Working the polls in Columbus yesterday was truly a life altering experience. In a very affluent old-money suburb, elderly republicans yelled insults and questioned my ancestry. But then I was pulled to a minority precinct with long lines and challenges. Watching elderly women, and the infirm standing for hours in the driving rain to exercise their vote hit me in a way I can't explain. After the sun went down, it got colder and when it kept raining harder and harder, we expected people to run for their cars and their homes. Nobody budged! I spoke with a 69 yr old woman who had taken her mother to the hospital during the previous night and hadn't slept in 2 days. As soon as her mother as stabilized and doing well, she didn't go home. Instead, she came to her polling place looking forward to standing in the rain for 2 - 4 hours and she wouldn't be denied.

I won't expound on the profound disillusionment and disappointment I feel as I wouldn't want to give more ammo to joyous lurking freepers. I'll only say I fear for this country for several reasons.

John Kerry ran an honorable race and I"m against conceding at this point.

God bless America. (We're going to need it.)

11. It just doesn't seem possible.
I saw so much support for Kerry. I just don't see how it was possible for * to win.

I'm in udder disbelief. Time to work on making sure our elections are fair and honest - getting rid of e-voting with no paper trail should be our number 1 priority. Otherwise these machines will be in Ohio in 2008.
