Kasich, fellow Republicans to propose SB 5 deal to unions 8/17/2011
Gov. John Kasich pleaded with organized labor leaders today to compromise on Senate Bill 5 and cancel a fall referendum on the controversial bill that peels back public employee collective bargaining rights.
...
But We Are Ohio, the coalition that is leading the effort to overturn the collective bargaining law, reacted negatively almost immediately. "They can repeal the entire bill or join us in voting no on Nov. 8," said spokeswoman Melissa Fazekas.

“We’re glad that Governor Kasich and the other politicians who passed SB 5 are finally admitting this is a flawed bill,” she added in a statement. “Just like the bill was flawed this approach to a compromise is flawed as well. Our message is clear. These same politicians who passed this law could repeal it and not thwart the will of the people.”

The Ohio Democratic Party tweeted after the event: “It wasn’t long ago that we had a governor who wouldn’t run people over with a bus if they disagreed with him.”

3. TEA party priorities
I'll bet, they did some polling and found that people who show up to repeal SB5 in Nov (issue 2) will also overwhelmingly vote against repealing Obamacare (issue 3).

On the other hand if SB5 were taken off the ballot, they might have a chance at repealing Obamacare in Ohio.

They are faking contrition, so they can win on both issues, don't be fooled by Kasich's willingness to compromise on SB5 provisions.

4. Press coverage on this is disturbing
The unions are being portrayed as not cooperating with the governor by not being willing to "come to the table."

5. Kasich knows that the referendum will bring out liberal voters...
...giving OH to Obama and Sherrod Brown.
