WARNING WARNING. Stupid letters to the editor out, so prob Rush has distributed his official talkin
points. Dont let this tripe go unanswered if and when you see it. This was published in a northeast Ohio local home town paper this morning:

Editor:

Who is this man we call "president."

We listened for many months of his campaign to find an answer to this question. What did we find? We learned of his many associations with unsavory people in his neighborhood. We found he had very little knowledge of the government, apparent since he was running for president most of the time he should have been doing the job he was elected to the Senate.

During his campaign, he was so busy attacking Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin there was no time left to address the problems this nation is facing. Also, under attack was President Bush. If we look back, we will find many of the problems under President Bush's administration were caused by the very "Liberal" Congress.

Now, here we are. We know, if you remember, as I do, President Obama was giving almost weekly speeches to the nation -- before he was sworn in as president this was almost unheard of. He was welcomed into the White House as a guest, and the rest is history, he began running the country before he was even in power.

Now we have a president who is still campaigning all over the country rather than facing the task of all the many problems we are experiencing. Also, we see a president who is spending trillions of dollars in bailouts and the federal budget.

Now, we can see this man we call our president appearing on late night talk show programs. Ask yourself, is this how he should be spending his time? Maybe he could become a comedian. I don't know about you, but I do not consider a statement such as this ... amusing. Our honorable president stated on national television he had a score of (129) when bowling "and that maybe it could be compared to the "Special Olympics." Now do we have some clue as to whom we have elected as the president of our great country?

Name withheld, to protect the gullible.

Here's what I posted in response:

...what immediately jumps to mind, is that it looks like the official Rush Limbaugh talking points have been distributed.... How people can buy into the blather beats me. If you don't want to be part of the solution, get out of the way. If you are intent on disrespecting the President for specious reasons and with straw man assertions, shame on you.

1. This is a daily occurrence in our paper
LTTEs are all about right-wing talking points ...
--the evils of the Fairness Doctrine
--we are becoming "socialists"!!!!!!!!!!!
etc., etc., etc.

It is really pathetic. A right-wing idiot with talking points can blather for many column inches, but god help the progressive who writes more than two, short pithy paragraphs. Even then the progressive won't get printed.

2. this letter looked intent on a pretty comprehensive message to me, but
I know what you are saying. Rush and the Message mutates on a regular basis. It makes me sick to know how much money he makes from all of this.

3. Limpballs outcry
Yea I saw that in a local paper. Also what has been "appearing" alot in letters to the editor is the "anti-abortion" attacks. OK, my question is: GW was in office for 8 years with 6 of those in a republican dominated house so where were the "anti-abortion" letters then???? There was NEVER any move to overturn Roe vs Wade, not even a slight whisper on the subject. Hell, the repugs DON'T want to overtrun it as they will lose their soap box speech against the Democrats because they sure the hell can't talk about their accomplishments....they have none.

abortion letters, but until you mentioned it, I didn't see the pattern.

Thank you for posting this, esp. on the Ohio forum. As a student of history I have learned that Ohio has a diverse political and religious history, and people here, in Ohio, have strong opinions that are based on rich diverse legacies. It is one of the reasons I absolutely love Ohio. There is much to learn here. There is much upon one can thrive.

I normally don't post about abortion, just because I have decided that I need to focus on one or two issues, or I would not get any sleep.

I have never been faced with the realization that I might need to consider abortion, and, speaking as a woman, I think I could not do it ever ever. But never, ever, never, would I presume to think that I could ever decide for someone else. And, as the oldest of eight, I can share that I never planned or really wanted to have kids, but that I am absolutely pro-choice, and, now that I have kids, I love them absolutely. They are my reason for being.

The blather against abortion is insidious. It is based, basically, on a straw man argument against a right to decide (privacy, to boot), that somehow, people who are pro-choice, are anti-life.

That is some messed-up thinking at best, yes?

7. Thanks
I agree. I just wish they would move on to some of the more pressing issues that plague this country.

5. This appeared in today's Times Reporter

Please somebody send Obama a handkerchief. When he stood up there before thousands of people and had to sneeze and put his hand to cover his sneeze and his nose, it was disgusting. Where was his handkerchief?

http://www.timesreporter.com/opinion/x1579113601/30-Seconds-Obama-should-use-a-handkerchief-when-he-sneezes

I guess what the caller was saying was that Obama delivered another amazing speech and that the caller couldn't find anything in it to complain about; so he complained that Obama covered his month when he sneezed. Don't you love the mentality of the good people of East Central Ohio?

6. the implication being quite cagy, calculated and insidious again....
...that he somehow didn't learn manners growing up. Of course he shouldn't be President. All those people who voted for him had handerkerchiefs over their eyes. They'll need handkerchiefs now when they see the "Truth."
