Contribute to Strickland by the end of December & take $50 off your taxes

Ted Strickland is the only governor candidate we have, so I figured I ought to donate to him. You can contribute $50/person/year to a candidate for Ohio office and take $50 off your state taxes. Then come January, you can contribute again (Hey!).

1. "free money" (sort of)

The Ohio tax code provides a dollar for dollar credit (not a deduction) for up to $50 per person or $100 for couples filing a joint return. It covers contributions to the state executive offices and the General Assembly.

If you expect to have Ohio Income Tax liability, it's basically "free money." Donate before the end of the year, get it taken off of your taxes when you file.
