just got back from Cary mall early voting: it was PACKED!!
I was so excited. But it _is_ frustrating to not be able to give people "cheat sheets" for the non-partisan parts of the tickets, due to the mall's "rules," because most people just don't know unless they have a handy guide that advises them on who is most consistent with Dem principles (or Rethug principles, in fairness to their rights). I was able to sneak my cheat sheet to the Dem woman behind me.

I must say, though, the Board of Elections staff were outstanding. They were running that thing like a Taylorite Ford factory circa 1928. Polite, but very organized, and ensuring that we saw that our vote "counted" when we put it in the optiscan. I know things are far from perfect but it was so heartening to see everyone taking voting so seriously for a change.

A polling place packed with hundreds of people on a Saturday afternoon in Cary with a thirty minute wait? Un-believable.

1. why can't you take in "cheat sheets" in the mall?
We can take them into our polling place in Hillsborough.
Why does the mall care?

And congrats on voting!
Fun, ain't it?

2. you can't hand them out anywhere on mall property (well beyond 50 ft rule)--protests today
The Wake Dems and Repubs are protesting this. Triangle Towne Center and Cary Towne Center, two large polling places (for the first time located in malls), suddenly announced at the beginning of early voting Thursday that candidates and other persons handing out literature couldn't do so anywhere on mall property. That means the entire sq mile parking lot. Here's a link to the N&O story.

We were protesting it this morning. Don't know where they are in renegotiations.

And the mall's have had the biggest turnout--each about 5k/day Thur, Fri, and today.

3. Voted at the Cary mall this morning...I only stood in line for about
15 minutes before I got to vote. The line was moving very quickly!!! One thing I was surprised about is that they didn't ask me for any ID. I know in the past, when I voted on election day they always asked me for my drivers license.

4. They shouldn't have asked for ID - ever.
That is not in the statute, and restricts people who do not have a drivers license or equivalent - which are not required for voting.

As long as I can remember, I have never been asked for ID. Just my name and address.

5. I have always been asked for ID - I just thought it was surprising that
I wasn't asked.
