Election Transparency Coalition's lawsuit desperately needs legal volunteers
They were in the process of filing a lawsuit in NYS to block the implementation of e-voting machines as contrary to the NYS Constitution which includes a passage requiring ballots in all elections be counted publicly at the polling places on Election Day. This argument is similar to the one made in Germany which resulted in banning e-voting machines there. (Although ~30 counties have passed non-binding resolutions--the state makes the ultimate call--to retain lever machines, and many others have been wondering aloud how they will pay the additional costs of maintaining and storing these machines which require so much more than the levers, still, the state is forcing the e-voting machines on them.)

The ETC thought they had gotten superior pro bono legal representation from a prestigious firm, but as the case proceeded, the people from the firm were blatantly negligent, not getting motions and other vital matters ready in time, and not showing up for scheduled meetings. They were forced to fire them, and are now w/o representation, as their court date closes in.

Their foremost need is an attorney who knows NYS law and can practice there. The preparation will be done near Albany. Also needed are voluntary paralegals to slog through the mountains of precedents and paperwork.

If you or someone you know wants to participate please contact Emily Levy at <emily at etcnys.org>, as soon as possible.

1. I've been told that volunteer lawyers & paralegals can work from anywhere
not just in Albany area.
