Chinese Construction Co Starts NY Bridge Renovation Project
Source: Peoples Daily Online

The ground breaking ceremony for Alexander-Hamilton Bridge renovation project, the largest single phase project for the New York Department of Transportation, was held on Wednesday. The project, launched by the China Construction America, Inc. (CCA), consists of the renovation project of a steel arch bridge across the river and the corresponding eight ramps spanning the Harlem River, and the interchange of the U.S. National Interstate Highway I-95 and I-87 connecting Manhattan and Bronx boroughs of New York City.

The 466-meter main bridge has a total of 9 crosses. Major work includes reconstruction and expansion of the two-way eight-lane bridge to a two-way ten-lane bridge, changing of the steel bridge deck, reconstruction and reinforcement of steel box girder and beams. The project is scheduled to be completed on Dec. 31, 2013, lasting some 57 months.

7. Come to think of it, this may be a good deal for the U.S. taxpayer. If a U.S. firm knew they
were getting the contract they'd probably pay their CEO $25 million a year; whereas, a Chinese firm would only pay theirs $250,000. The Chinese will probably hire American workers; whereas, the American firm would hire undocumented Hispanic workers.

It all works out in the end.

Where are you living? How does national security mix with giving arch-enemy of our political system access to infrastructure? Maybe we are already sold out to China like R. Paul said .
also, union projects do not employ illegal aliens ,maybe there are some abuses in shrub country down south but not NYC / I'm talking about projects of similar scope/

Why on Earth would you post unrelated historical photos in response to an article about a modern construction project, especially with zero contextual description? Cannot you see the potential folly of doing so?

I wouldn't expect a 1930's photo of a random German topic or a 1950s housewife photo for a femminist article. Humor has a very dark side since a joke cannot exist with out a group or individual which serves as a butt.

I assume you were attempting to make a funny since it does not shed any useful information modern Chinese construction firms or workers. Bad joke.

25. don't buy...
anything made in China. It's not easy, but it's possible. And I'm seeing more and more clothes made in other places, besides China.

If you want this to stop, make sure your purchases reflect it.

26. I'll add to this again...
Mr. Butcher of Montana is meeting with a Chinese delegation to open a horse slaughter plant in Montana.

We ran the Belgium's out of the country, so now Mr. Butcher will bring in the Chinese.

United States of China is right.

Last paragraph is on slaughter. Post comments at the link.

HARDIN - A KULR-8 news crew was in California when American Police Force's Michael Hilton admitted to a judge that he is destitute. Some odd revelations came out Monday night, during a Two Rivers Authority meeting in Hardin.
Officials said they owe Michael Hilton $1,500 dollars. Hilton funded a May business trip to California but repayment is complicated by judgments against him. Officials said they'll contact California officials for direction in the matter.
In addition to that, the meeting offered further eye-opening revelations.
Prison developer James Parkey of Corplan Corrections, which helped create the jail, sent a letter stating that he did not have any contact with APF before the May meeting.
Meanwhile, state officials have asked Two Rivers Authority to conduct a valuation audit since the jail has not performed its intended use.
TRA officials have been in contact with numerous authorities trying to fill the jail, and are ready to ask state officials what changes would need to be made in order to contract with the state. That trip is on hold though until a new executive director is in place.
Officials received six applications for the position. Applicant and former APF spokeswoman Becky Shay was in attendance. Officials said they hope to fill the position by the next meeting.
TRA President Gary Arneson suddenly announced his plans to step down as president, but will stay on the board until the end of his term in May. Both Arneson and Al Peterson, whose term also expires in May, said they will not seek another term.
TRA officials are also looking for new legal representation, and will be billing former Two Rivers Authority Contract Attorney Becky Convery for office cleaning. A source said Convery kept a goat, rabbits, and a stray dog in her office.
A Chinese delegation is set to visit Hardin in order to discuss a horse slaughter facility. Recent moves by the Montana legislature have opened the door for such a facility, but a lack of federal inspectors could make international shipping impossible.

28. Doesn't NYS require a certain % of unionization in their construction contracts?
Does CCA meet these requirements?

I hate to even think about the quality of their steel. I recently bought a small Farberware stainless steel pot to replace the one I'd had for 20+ years until I burned it to death over a low flame when I got interrupted while getting ready to cook something. The new made-in-China one looked the same, but almost immediately it showed little spots of rust on the interior. (No, I didn't do anything wrong to it. Burning the old one was a one time lapse in many years of uneventful cooking.)
