Off-duty NYC cop fatally shot by fellow officer
Source: Associated Press

A New York City plainclothes policeman who drew his gun while chasing someone he found rummaging through his car has been shot to death by a fellow officer.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says 25-year-old Omar J. Edwards died Thursday night. He was shot within blocks of the Harlem police station where he worked.

Kelly says Edwards had just gotten off work when he spotted a man going through his vehicle. Edwards began chasing him, and officers in an unmarked police car saw the pursuit and followed.

Kelly says one of the officers jumped out of the car and fired six shots, hitting Edwards in the arm and the chest. Edwards did not fire his weapon.

The shooter is white and Edwards is black. It was unclear if race had any role in the shooting.

1. "It was unclear if race had any role in the shooting."
Bullshit. It has everything to do with it.

2. And racism apologists everywhere are mobilizing their "plausible deniability" arguments.

8. Exactly.
You know if it was a white guy who was chasing a man down the street with a gun, the cop wouldn't have shot him.

6. Just another sad example
Of "shoot first, ask questions later." Did the shooter even take the time to figure out what was going on?

Obviously not.

It's too bad that a police officer died over something that could have been prevented.
