Arcuri-Meier race in NY 24.
How's it going? Post the news here.

Anyway, has anyone noticed the differences between the two campaign's yard signs? Ray Meier's signs just say MEIER with "CONGRESS" underneath in smaller letters, and a red swoosh on top. No imagination, no frills. Just "here he is, vote for him."

Arcuri's signs are cool looking. I've never seen one done in teal before. In addition to the candidate's name and the office he's running for, you have a picture of the candidate, and a theme - "new leadership for a new generation" - in a layout that probably required some thoughtfulness to put together. Amazingly, it's all visible from the street as you drive past. Maybe we can give Meier some slogans for his signs, something like, "if you need a reason to vote for Meier, you hate America."

How about it, Central New York? Can we get a thread on the big board from the New York forum? Let's hear from you.

1. Hi trogdor..
Arcuri is running for my district, too. I know of someone from my town(a retired school teacher) who is helping out with his campaign. I just happened to catch an ad on tv where the repugs were thrasing Arcuri, but that's all I've heard. No signs in my town..too small.

I wonder if this mark foley bust will help Dems so they can throw hastert out?

They're still harping on that incident where the NRCC paid some guy with a criminal record to write a check to the Arcuri campaign so they could tell the media what a crook Arcuri was. It's lame as hell. I heard the same guy tried to send a check to the Spitzer campaign, but Team Spitzer was more on the ball and turned it back before the NRCC could send out the press release.

So anyway, here's an answer on the Foley scandal.

4. I saw Arcuri make a speech a few days ago.
He spoke about Iraq (although nowhere near as much as I would have expected), Stem Cell research, and the economy. Most of the questions asked at the end of the program were about Iraq. There wasn't a big turnout, but I'm seeing Arcuri signs everywhere and haven't seen one Meier sign. Arcuri seemed like a very respectable and intelligent man. I'm pretty sure he's going to win.

5. The negative ads have arrived in the 24th.
Mostly boilerplate stuff about Arcuri being a "tax and spend liberal" and similar bullshit. I'd love to see the record that backs that up. One ad dug some out-of-context bullcrap out of Arcuri's distant past that makes him look like someone who coddles rapists, as if people who have been accused of certain crimes don't deserve due process. This would indicate that the NRCC is really, REALLY concerned about the probability of the 24th falling into the hands of the Democrats so that the Republicans can't promote from within anymore.
