Orange County falls for John Hall
Hey DU! I just got back from the Orange County Dem Convention. In the 19th Congressional race, all candidates received between 410 and 475 (weighted) votes, except John Hall. John Hall received over 4,000 votes!

I am sure that we are off to primary. I, for one, am psyched! The conservatives, moderates, liberals and progressives all got together to support Hall.

To see Dick Randazzo, Michael Sussman, and Manny Manguel (all local big wigs, usually with opposing agendas) all supporting the same person.... it brought tears to my eyes!

ps- I know that Putnam county voted for one of the other guys...

1. Putnam went for Rigger
But Putnam has its own political reasons for doing so. For one thing, Rigger is a home town boy from Putnam Valley. He helped Putnam Valley's Dems win big in local elections last year, and that's something that will benefit the whole county, because the new board has a strong environmental agenda.

Another thing is that many Putnam Dems are retired/active union, firefighters, or police. They will support a candidate whom they view as pro-labor.

Having said that, I voted for Hall in both ballots. I will probably vote for him in the primary. But if Rigger was the nominee, I'd have no trouble pulling the lever for him in November. He's actually a very personable guy, more progressive than you'd imagine.

Thanks for the Orange update!
