NEW WEEKEND FOR NYC GATHERING!!! Feb 18th (time to be announced)
After talking with SharonRB, that amazing gal from Michigan, I find out that her and many others from the area are going to be in NYC for the weekend of February 17th. And the list of DUers she is bringing with her is quite exquisive!!

So after talking with JimmyJazz and a few others we felt it would be better to change our weekend to the same weekend that SharonRB and others will be in NYC which is the weekend of February 17th.

I need to talk to her about what time her group is doing stuff so we can plan around her trip (she's coming in for other reasons).

So (weather pending - if there is a blizzard no one will be there) stay tuned for the new and improved DU gathering in NYC February 18th, 2006

1. Thanks, Lynne
Maybe you'll get a better response than I did. Do you want to post something in GD and the Lounge as well (if you haven't already)?

Saturday night would probably be best for everyone -- we can do our theatre thing in the afternoon. We all get in on Friday and a couple of us are staying until Monday. We haven't decided exactly what we're going to do the whole time yet. I PMd you in response to yours.

I'm so looking forward to this!

2. I'm not doing anything all-out full blast like DC
Once we figure out where we'll have the party then we'll post the details and have Skinner post a link on the home page. It's always best to just keep the threads here in the state where the party is located because hopefully the post won't sink to archive in 2 days.

If we have a DU party I think it would be best to do it in the early evening at some Irish Pub with reasonably priced drinks. Two places that come to mind are Rudy's and Rocky Sullivan - both of which are very liberal friendly. Neither actually serve food but I know that Rocky Sullivan has no problem with people running next door to grab something from one of the many restaurants nearby and bringing it back to eat. Rudy's is also nearby and has a little outside alcove where the smokers can hang out and drink (NYC is non-smoking).

Then for those of us in your group (and ours) we can grab dinner somewhere nice at least once!

You'll be dumping-out in to the Theater District at 4-4:30 PM with every other theater goer...if your DU Party is far removed from your theater, the crush to find a cab on a mid-February Saturday can be brutal:crazy:

If you think you can "walk it"...think again.

"Nightnurse" on my birthday, last August.

9. I know we're not going to be able to walk it
especially in February! I'm not sure what we're going to see. We were going to try our luck at TKTS.

Good point about the cabs, though. We may just have to play it by ear.

10. Just hop on a bus!
Make sure you have 2 bucks change (or get a Metrocard at a newsstand or subway booth) per person, get on the crosstown M42 at Broadway & 42nd going east, ask the driver for a transfer, get off at Lexington Avenue (just past Grand Central Station on your left... look up and you'll see the Chrysler Building.) On the southwest corner of 42nd and Lex get on a M101-Local, M102, or M103 and Rocky Sullivan's is about 5 minutes south! Or you could walk from 42nd... about 15 minutes! Just a suggestion... I hate cabs!

13. I'm planning to be there !
As a native Brooklynite and Charter Member of the KOEB, it doesn't get better than that for a DU Meet-up :loveya:

Well, except for a Peace March on D.C. !
