Take 19
Does anyone from the 19th district have information about this group? From what I understand, it's evolved to unseat Sue Kelly--a long overdue project. However, I have some concerns about the group, as it appears to be operating sub rosa and outside party hierarchy. Maybe that's a good thing; maybe not. I heard about it secondhand.

I'm not involved with it right now as I'm running my own campaign for town board, but I am curious as to how it will dovetail with the party's plans, if at all.

Heaven knows we NEED candidate in NY19. But my feeling is that if a group is going to vet candidates and/or plan a campaign, should it be going outside the party structure to do this?

I'm just askin.'

1. I can't answer your questions but I'm looking at Ben Schuldiner
as someone interesting.
http://www.ben2006.com/aboutben/values.cfm

I'm getting his Volunteer emails and will be going up to help soon--and see if he's someone I want to work for. (I live in NYC-my Congressman will be basically unopposed!)

You might also check out www.newdemmajority.org
they seem good to me in the question of proximity to the party.

2. Take19
Take19's purpose is issues education and community outreach with a view to increase the likelyhood that a Democratic candidate will win the 19th CD election in 2006. There are 5 Democratic candidates currently actively running for Congress in the 19th (although not all have declared, they have filed with the FEC). They are (in alphabetical order):

Judy Aydelot
John Hall
Jim Martorano
Darren Rigger
Ben Schuldiner

As we move forward in the campaign season, you will be hearing more about the candidates and more about the ways in which Sue Kelly has not been representing the 19th CD.

Meanwhile - go to our blog at http://take19.blogspot.com/ to find out all you need to know about Sue Kelly.

3. Welcome to DU Take19
It's about time that someone tries to unseat Sue Kelly. She keeps winning every election without any scrutiny from the media and with only token opposition. Is there any chance that we could get groups like DFA to give money to her challenger(s)?

4. Thanks!
I am active in Putnam County politics. I want to learn more about this. And I want to be rid of Kelly, especially in the light of the 04 election and the Jaliman debacle.

Welcome to DU!

7. Welcome Take 19! And yes, we have to take the 19th! Sue Kelly
has to go. She has proven for the most part to be a Bushbot and the thought of her representing me is sickening. Right now I am supporting John Hall but if he doesn't get to run head to head with her, I'll of course support and volunteer my time with whomever does.

5. You should also visit the local Democracy For America
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 04:58 PM by DinahMoeHum
chapters in the region:

www.democracyforamerica.com

www.democracyforwestchester.net

Right now, Democracy For Westchester meets monthly in three areas: New Rochelle, White Plains, and Bedford/Bedford Hills (look upper right corner of DFW website)

You might also want to try one of 3 other DFA groups that are just starting:
Democracy For the Hudson Valley (Crompound, NY)
http://www.dfalink.com/group.php?id=668

Philipstown/Putnam Valley DFA
http://www.dfalink.com/group.php?id=147
Their own website: http://www.p4d.us/

and
Mid-Hudson Progressive Alliance / Beacon, NY
http://www.dfalink.com/group.php?id=265
Their own website: http://midhudsonalliance.com/

As you'll notice, 2 of these 3 other groups have their own website AND a link to Take 19.

This should be enough to get you started.
Good luck and good hunting.

P.S. While I don't live in the 19th CD (I live next door in the 18th CD, btw), we had Aydelott and Hall at our big kick-off meeting last week in the Scarsdale Library (with Jim Dean as the man speaker)

P.P.S. While DFA is not an "official affiliate" of the Democratic Party, many of us belong to both DFA and the Dems.
