Vacationing in Niagara Falls - fun and/or quirky suggestions?
I'll be coming up there soon and wanted to collect off-the-beaten-path type places. Good diners? Silly sites?
Just wanted to see what the locals suggest. Thanks in advance!

1. Well if it's Niagara Falls, Ontario....lots of cool stuff to do...
....if you want to avoid the tourist trap stuff...stay away from the Clifton Hill area...and the Casinos...obviously....

...take a tour along the Niagara Parkway...its absolutely stunningly beautiful...there are tourists to deal with, but nothing like the neon maze of the Falls tourist area....there's a butterfly conservatory....a glen where you can hike down to the bottom of the Niagara River (its pretty steep, so only do it if you think you're in decent shape)....any number of wineries to visit....

There is one great diner you might want to visit....go there later at night, as in if you've had a few....it's called "The Flying Saucer", it's on a street which is called "Lundy's Lane" (touristy, but on the way out of town and not nearly as bad as Clifton Hill area...its literally shaped like a flying saucer, and is open 24 hours)...greasy spoon menu, but gawd is it ever good...when you're drunk and starving especially...it's always busy too...lots of fun!!!

Good luck, hope this helped and have a great trip!!!

2. besides all the off the beaten path stuff, there are some . . .
tourist attractions that are also worth experiencing . . . walking the tunnels beneath the Horseshoe Falls, for example, is a breathtaking experience of Mother Nature's sheer power . . .

3. Tunnels behind Horseshoe falls are incredible
So is the Maid of the Mist boat trip--get ready to get soaked.
The Rapids boardwalk is cool, too.

The Whirlpool cable car is expensive and not as neat as one would think.

Avoid all the tourist traps other than that.

Go visit Fort Erie, nearby.

And definitely stay on the Canadian side, much nicer over their anyway. Plus it has the benefit of being out from under **'s thumb during your visit. :-)

4. The spook houses are lots of fun!
There's also a place that has two strip clubs-- tittie bar upstairs, jiggling balls downstairs.
