Hey Noo Yawkers! I'll be in Manhattan next weekend. Need some tips.
I posted this in the Lounge as well.

I would like some suggestions on dive bars. I have been to lots of them in NY, but would love to find a place that you all go to and like, preferably with Happy Hours, free bar food, or drink specials. Oh, and the Sox will be playing the Yanks. I hope I don't get killed.

Are there any new bars we should check out?

How embarrassed should I be that I'll be spending my weekend drinking and shopping instead of doing cultural things?

Thanks in advance for your help!

1. For God's sake don't wear your Sox hat.
Plenty of time for culture later.

Have a great time----I'm jealous.

2. Thanks!
you'd be surprised how many Sox caps I see in NY. Lots of transplanted New Englanders there. :-)

3. Hope this link will help in the meantime
http://www.urban75.org/newyork/bars.html

I'm not a drinker so bars ain't my scene BUT a nice hang-with-friends spot is the Pink Pony on Ludlow St, near Stanton, on the Lower East Side. Also, as a native Detroiter, I'm partial to the Motor City Bar (further down on Ludlow) because it's the only dive where you can get Vernors.

For food, if you're in the market for greasy spoon, unpretentious, good ol' fashioned burgers: Big Nicks at Broadway around 70th and Paul's Place (2nd Ave just south of St. Marks Place).

5. HAHAHAHA
I have been to Yankee stadium many times, but I don't plan on visiting there in a Sox cap. :-)

6. aw, c'mon . . . TRUST ME! . . .
Yankee fans are the sweetest, most knowledgable, most compassionate athletic supporters this side of Chicago and the Cubbies . . . they WELCOME visitors from the North . . . they'll congratulate you on the Sox winning the Series, and tell you how much the rivalry excites them and how much they respect Big Popi and Manny . . .

AND they'll buy you drinks! . . .
