Curious- Any DUers from Hoboken know
what's going on in local politics? I'm sadly ignorant of the local goings on. Can anyone point me to a good site that can keep me informed of local Hoboken politics or suggest a good candidate for mayor? I don't know much about David Roberts. Is he a good mayor, or is he, like many local politicians, a bit slimy?

1. dave roberts is not as bad as former mayors... but
he sort of goes with the tide, you know. i don't want to say much. i would recommend talking to councilman tony soares, he's a good egg. i actually registered him to vote years ago when he first moved to town. follow the jersey journal also, sometimes the local paper is a bit skewed.
things were a lot worse here, but most of the land grab is over, so i think there's just a lot less opportunity to be corrupt. i have no idea if they still drag out the bag of voters' names on election day. it used to be 50 - 60 $ to vote 3 times. we really wrote the book on election fraud here.
get in touch w/ tony, i a sure he'll give you a 1/2 hour after a council meeting sometime.
you can pm me if you want.

2. Thank you.
I've seen Tony around. I just might do that some day. It's just I think I heard this will be an election year for the mayor, and I wanted to know how well he measured up on the "progressive" meter. Creating a better country starts from the ground up. We've got to make/keep our own neighborhoods in the mold of what we would like to see at all levels. Blogger and musician Tris McCall said something to that effect on his site. If we build from the ground up, we won't have to keep voting for DLC handpicked candidates.
