Gibbons recall
oh yeah!

Trepp may have had more contracts

A secret $100 million defense deal is alleged by former partner
By Jeff German and J. Patrick Coolican
Las Vegas Sun

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons, while serving in the U.S. House, helped longtime friend Warren Trepp secure a secret $100 million defense contract, according to court documents filed this week by Trepp's former business partner.

If true, Trepp's dealings with the Defense Department, which have come under federal scrutiny, were far greater than what previously has been reported. The FBI is investigating whether Gibbons as a congressman received unreported gifts from the wealthy defense contractor and campaign contributor.

In court papers filed in Reno, lawyers for the former business partner, software developer Dennis Montgomery, alleged that Gibbons used his congressional position to help Trepp obtain the $100 million contract in January 2006 from the U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Fla., the arm of the military at the forefront of the global war on terrorism.

1. "potential recall battle" funds

Gibbons' legal, political troubles adding up

By J. Patrick Coolican
Las Vegas Sun

Gov. Jim Gibbons' political and legal adversity has entered a new phase: a high-profile Washington lawyer, a legal defense fund to pay for him, and now, a potential recall battle.

Gibbons on Tuesday amended a previous financial disclosure form with the secretary of state's office, disclosing the existence of a legal defense fund and its donors - and describing the donations as "gifts."

The 24 names listed include the company owned by Gibbons' campaign adviser Sig Rogich; developer Jay Brown; three companies controlled by lobbyist and developer Harvey Whittemore; and the New Frontier.

Else, Dina Titus would have kicked his miserable, weaselly and obnoxious ass.

6. Have ya'll signed the Recall Petition?
Just came across it today as I was researching his ties to the USA purge. Also found this excellent post at MyDD about Gibbons:

7. Gibbons down to 28% approval rating
That's been very consistent with two other recent polls that had him at 29% and 30%. Only 1% say he is doing an excellent job, which is incredible.

8. Any more news on this?
I have not been hearing much about a recall anymore. Hope this story doesn't die out. Why are Nevadans so apathetic?

9. The new NBC investigation should help
Into a reported $100,000 payoff on a cruise two years ago. That was all over the news today.

You're right, the recall talk had died out somewhat the past few weeks. But there was a strange comment from Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman that he had been approached by business interests asking if he would be interested in running in a recall election. If so, it wouldn't be unlike Arnold in California, who passed up a run in 2002 then pounced when Gray Davis was even more vulnerable less than a year later. The only problem is Oscar is a celebrity mayor who may not want to relocate to low profile Carson City.
