Waitress-Slapping Drunken Governor's Secret Midnight Oath
Jim Gibbons was already famous for being a do-nothing Nevada congressman who routinely spouted asinine nonsense and basically threatened to kill a Vegas cocktail waitress just before the midterm elections that bizarrely put him in the governor’s mansion, but we can now add “paranoid schizophrenic” to his long list of personal problems.

“Citing unspecified security concerns,” the rat-eyed Republican was sworn in as the New Year arrived Monday at 12 a.m. — in the living room of his house in the grim Reno suburb of Sparks. This couldn’t be any weirder if Michael Jackson, Liza Minelli and that dwarf from “Twin Peaks” were on hand....So what prompted the midnight secret ceremony?

Gibbons issued a statement saying that while state agencies “know of no credible threat, recent world events and New Year’s celebrations raise the potential for problems during Nevada’s first government transition since the terror attacks of 9-11. Nevadans should be assured that their leaders are in place, ready for any emergency.”

Gibbons spokesman Brent Boynton said “recent world events” was a reference to the execution of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

Hooray! A delusional psychotic will be governor of one of America’s fastest growing states.
Outgoing Republican governor Kenny Guinn was pretty much liked by everybody because he’s a decent, sane human who governed with quiet competence. Nobody will ever say that about violent dingbat Jim Gibbons. (Guinn refused to endorse Dingbat Drunky McGibbons, for a hundred obvious reasons.)...

1. "...in the grim Reno suburb of Sparks..." !?!?!
Edited on Wed Jan-03-07 03:04 AM by DRoseDARs
Wha wha WHAT?!?! Excuse me? Sparks is a separate city from and a lot nicer than Reno. I live in the southern part of the valley (Reno and Sparks are in the north) in the unincorporated area and even I'm offended by that comment.

4. I'm typing a LTTE right now.
The comment just really rubbed me the wrong way and I'm sure they didn't mean anything by it. Oh well, ce la vie.

5. They just love a snarky term of phrase...and "grim" probably suited their sense of the
nutso guv. Perhaps they would have been better served to refer to his grim living room in the suburbs, rather than characterize the suburbs in any fashion!

6. Gaming Control Board appointment was the reason for midnight oath
Guinn had appointed his choice, set to take office at precisely midnight. Gibbons believes taking the oath at midnight gives him the authority to override Guinn's appointment and make one of his own. But Gibbons did not finish the oath until 12 seconds after midnight and began taking it before 2007 began, leaving a question whether there was an opening in the first place.

New Democratic office holders, Secretary of State Ross Miller and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto will apparently decide the matter.

7. Ross Miller
son of past gov Bob Miller...grandson of mobster Russ Miller who beat the shit out of people in Chicago and continued to do so when ceo of the Riveria...my Dad worked for him in Chicago and had a nice reunion in LV in the late '50's which was disturbed as Miller had to take a fellow out back for cheating on slots and beat the hell out of him.

Not saying of course that his descendants are hoods....just Nevada history.
