Jack Carter needs to spoon feed these statements to Ensign this year!

snip...

Despite soaring energy prices that have placed already-struggling people in even more trouble this winter, Team Bush decided in December that it was more important to give more tax cuts to the wealthy than to fund home heating for the poor.

Not to be outdone by Lott’s callousness, Republican John Ensign of Nevada, whined about the dangers of increasing the deficit by heating the homes of the elderly, despite having voted for every budget-busting tax cut placed before the Senate.

“There are those of us who believe that deficits are real. They are absolutely real,” said Ensign. “People get up and talk about them all the time. But when it comes right down to whether you are willing to make tough choices instead of just increasing the spending and passing that debt on to the next generation, they aren't willing to offer other spending cuts so that we are not increasing the deficit.”

And Jack came to speak to our small crowd. He did address this specific issue (speaking to the choir, of course), and also mentioned that Ensign has done little thus far in his efforts for his campaign (said he didn't even think Ensign knew he was in the race).

Also, NVMojo, thought you might be interested, for whatever it's worth, that I was successful in getting into the WC Platform this statement:

"Support legislation to ensure that voting machines have a reliable tracking system that prevents outside tampering." There was also discussion about other issues involving verifiable voting machines.

We'll see if it gets into the State Dem Platform, again, for whatever that's worth.

Don't know if you recall me, but we met at one of the Dem meetings in Reno and exchanged a few emails jsut after the 'selection' in 2004. Anyway, been trying to do what I can locally, as this year we have a SOS in the running (Ross Miller) and several Assembly seats, in addition to the Governor's race and this Senate seat that Carter is running for. I wanted to corner Miller and bring up the electronic voting machine issue, but he left the meeting too quickly.
