Academic Senate presented with Hergert resolution
Academic Senate presented with Hergert resolution
By SCOTT BAUER / The Associated Press

Already facing an impeachment probe and investigations by the State Patrol and state attorney general’s office, University of Nebraska Regent David Hergert’s fate also was discussed Tuesday by faculty on the main Lincoln campus.

A resolution before the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Academic Senate stops short of calling for Hergert to resign in the wake of his admission that he broke state campaign finance laws. Instead, it supports the ongoing investigations.

The resolution was called “incredibly weak” by Steve Bradford, a professor at UNL’s College of Law. He spoke in favor of a stronger statement being made.

Another law professor Richard Leiter described the statement as “wishy washy” and questioned why Hergert was being singled out.

Bradford said the integrity of the election was at stake and he wants to make sure that whoever is on the board is there legitimately.
