Ban on creation teaching in public schools?
Friend told me a bill was being introduced into the Montana State Senate this week to ban teaching of intelligent design in the state's schools. I haven't been able to find anything on this.
Anyone else hear anything?

2. The "Great Architect of the Universe" doesn't fear the teaching of
evolution or intelligent design. TGAOTU is a 'singularity' as with the 'Big Bang''s first nanosecond. The devil is in the details, as usual but you cannot escape it: you can't get something from nothing.

Fear (respect) of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.-- Solomon

I believe in evolution and God. They are not mutually exclusive.

5. from what i understand.

and that's probably not much, mind you...the big bang IS astrophysically possible, bc of the equation E=MC2...(i know people throw that around a lot, but just listen to me)

E=MC2 means that Energy is equal to matter times the speed of light squared. the way the big bang is described is that it was an incredibly intense pinpoint of light contained within an atom-sized area, something like that anyways. when that light/energy was released, the energy expanding outwards at the speed of light was slowed by entropy a slight amount, and the energy converted into matter (once it was slowed, it could no longer be energy).

the whole theory is reversing entropy, which states that the universe expands outward at a certain rate, and when it reaches the bounds of the energy released, the force of gravity (concurrent with a black hole which grows with every consumed bit of energy and matter) draws it back in, to cause another cycle.

i don't remember who came up with this theory, it seems i learned it in a physics class at some point...feel free to debunk it if you think it's wrong! i won't take offense, considering i'm not absolutely certain.

on edit: incidentally, i believe in the "clockmaker" theory of the 1700's: wherein god is akin to a clockmaker who builds the universe and starts the mechanism, then goes hands-off so he doesn't mess it up. it's either that, or belief in a naturally occurring big bang with Titans or mechanics coming in after and shaping each world in the image that they want.

7. So you can create independently of eachother matter or energy ?
The "E" has to come from somewhere...in the beginning...in the void.

8. no, the energy isn't created from nothing.
the point of reversing entropy is that it's a cyclical process: the previous universe was compacted down to an intense pinpoint of energy, and thus the energy DOES have a source. it's not coming from nothing.

there's also some interesting theory on how antimatter figures in, but i don't know enough of that to talk about it.

9. "the devil is in the details" .... TGAOTU is not in the details...
TGAOTU requires belief and faith. Science demands attention to details and scepticism.

They both hurt eachother by attacks.

Someone once said a scientist ends up climbing a mountain only to find a theologian waiting for him (paraphrased).

10. i'm not gonna argue the whole science/religion thing...
bc SOMEBODY's gonna get pissed off and flame me. i'm just saying what i know about the scientific theory. refer to post 5 for a short description of my possible beliefs regarding the creation of the universe.

4. Bills go both ways
There are 2 bills, one to ban creationism and another to get rid of evolution (e.g. "Intelligent Design").

6. Thanks CatholicEdHead
As a side note, after the Darby school board voted to allow the teaching of creationism in it's classrooms new signs below the town limits signs mysteriously appeared that read
ENTERING DARBY- THE TOWN EVOLUTION FORGOT

11. lol
Gads, I guess I'm glad I left the Bitterroot when I did. Yeah, Darby is, er, uhm, unique. Sad to hear it though. I kind of hoped they were more independent than to fall for this Christian fundy nonsense.

12. They didn't
the school board members who supported the evolution ban were voted out in next election after they made their squawk.
