Not even on the campaign trail had Kansas City’s new mayor faced an inquisition quite like the one he faced Tuesday.
More than 50 children at McCoy Elementary School listened with rapt attention to Mayor Mark Funkhouser as he delivered the keynote speech at their Safe School-Safe City event.
The celebration rewarded the pupils for raising more than $1,800 to purchase 21 Drug Free Zone signs to post within 2,000 feet of the school.
The mayor was among many city bigwigs in attendance, including school Superintendent Anthony Amato and Police Chief Jim Corwin.
