Help remember the 2500
U.S. Military Deaths In Iraq Reached 2,500 Lives Lost

Dear Peacemakers,

Sadly, the number of U.S. Military deaths in Iraq has reached 2,500.

In an effort to draw more attention to this tragic number of lives lost and to engage peacemakers in a meaningful way, we ask you to deliver a flower to news directors at area media outlets. Please attach the message below to the flower (print out or copy) adding your name and any personal message you would like to include.

We asked that deliveries be made tomorrow, Friday, June 16, or over the next two or three day(s).

Below are the addresses of the major media outlets to which we would like you to deliver your message and flowers.

To help make the delivery of flowers easier we have arranged with Russell Florists and Gifts at 6129 Nieman Rd., Shawnee, KS, Phone:(913) 631-5000 to deliver flowers to the news outlets below with no minimum charge.

You can call in and charge your order. Russell Florists will attached the message card (below) and add your name and a short personal message if you have one. Flowers begin at $2.00 per stem for carnations, $3.00 for daisies and $4.00 for roses. You can purchase one or more flowers to be delivered to as many of the media outlets you wish. Delivery will be included but flowers will be delivered in groups with other orders they have received.

Please let us know to whom you’ve delivered flowers. Please also encourage others to join you or offer to deliver flowers and their message for them.

Thank you for your efforts for peace.

Sincerely,

Ira Harritt

KC Iraq Task Force

KC AFSC

P.S. Attached is a Word File with two message cards on a page.

Dear News Director,

I bring to you this flower mourning the 2,500th U.S. military death in the Iraq war. I represent 76% of the U.S. public, some 224 million individuals, who feel that there have been “an unacceptable number of U.S. military casualties in Iraq.” (ABC News / Washington Post Poll, May 11-15, 2006)

I urge you to fully report the debate on the Iraq war and the feelings of the majority of Americans.

It is time to end the war and bring the troops home!

Sincerely,

Peace Vigil & Rally

June 25, Sunday

4:00pm to 5:30pm

J.C. Nichols Fountain,

47th & Main Streets, KCMO

Each day the Iraq war continues means

more deaths, more wasted dollars

and more anger toward the U.S.

But the people of Iraq are the ones who are suffering the most!

µ Come join a nonviolent vigil and peace rally.

µ Hear speakers, join with others working to end the Iraq war!

IRAQ DEATH TOLL IN THIRD YEAR OF OCCUPATION IS HIGHEST YET

The civilian death toll has risen inexorably for the entire duration of the US-led military presence in Iraq following the initial invasion. That is the grim reality uncovered by ongoing tracking of media reports by the Iraq Body Count project (IBC).

Iraqi Deaths documented in at least two independent news reports:

§ 6,331 from 1st May 2003 to the first anniversary of the invasion, 19th March 2004 (324 days: Year 1)

§ 11,312 from 20th March 2004 to 19th March 2005 (365 days: Year 2)

§ 12,617 from 20th March 2005 to 1st March 2006 (346 days: Year 3).

In terms of average violent deaths per day this represents:

§ 20 per day in Year 1

§ 31 per day in Year 2 and

§ 36 per day in Year 3.

The event is sponsored by the KC Iraq Task Force and the American Friends Service Committee.
