There are many troubling questions regarding Governor Matt Blunt's handling of the recent award and management of the non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) contract.
It has been widely reported that the new NEMT vendor for the state does not have an adequate network in place to provide the service that they contracted with the state to provide. This has resulted in hundreds of complaints by customers, untold stress and concern on the part of an already medically feeble population, and at least in one case, a patient's death....
During the contracting process, the Blunt administration made no effort to ensure that the awardee of a $25.5 million contract could actually perform the services that it was being hired to perform. Nor did it make sure that Logisicare was ready, willing and able to take over providing the services that were medically necessary for Missouri citizens, and as events of the last week unfolded, it became abundantly clear that they were not.
