Big news about the KC School District
I posted this in GD but wanted to make sure everyone in this area sees it. A judge has ruled against the district in a dispute with the charter schools. The ruling of $40 million will cripple the district if they are forced to pay it. I believe that's about double the total yearly budget.

There's also an assinine comment from Peter Kinder in this article. He thinks the district has plenty of money. Yeah, sure, Mr. Kinder :eyes:

1. I think its a good thing
to see a school district get its titties in the wringer. And Kansas will just have to cut down on the bibles/textbooks to pay it.

2. It's not in Kansas
it's the KC MISSOURI school district. And the state will NOT have to pay this - the district will. And news flash - they don't have an extra $40 mill lying around.

Did you even read the article?

4. dont care if its Kansas City, Tajikistan
School district Fucked up---and rather than do the right thing, they decided to spend their money fighting in court where they lost, and now are whining because they are poor. --> you wonder where your school taxes go, they go to lawyers and not to students.

I say tough shit---> and I think that they ought to just raise the taxes on everyone in the district-- as long as the people know EXACTLY whose fault it is. Perhaps next time there will be more thought about the need to hire so many people in the district that have nothing to do with teaching, and paying for their fancy buildings and cars and lawyers and whatnot. ---> YOU pay for these people. YOU allowed them to spend your taxes, YOU are therefore responsible.---> so don't go sticking the blame on someone else.

5. The taxpayers in the KCMO School District
have not approved a tax levy for schools since 1969.

So if you want to place some blame here, start with the taxpayers. Then move on to the MO legislature that approved charter schools in the first place (and ONLY for KC and St. Louis - and it doesn't take a leap in logic to figure out why charters are not allowed in any other districts).

The problem with your opinion is that KIDS are the ones who suffer when revenue is lost. Not people who have nothing to do with teaching and certainly not lawyers. You can blame whomever you choose but the kids are the ones who pay the price for all this political stupidity.
