John Kline Dirty Tricks
I received this in an email from Theresa Daly's campaign today.

John Kline's staff members decided that in order to win they needed to play dirty tricks on the Daly campaign instead of campaigning on the issues.

First, the Kline staff brought a bottle of Champagne to the Daly's Headquarters.
The attached note read, "...After viewing your latest ad, we thought it only fitting that you share in our celebration! We believe in giving credit where credit is due. Keep up the "good" work & enjoy!"

Secondly, the Kline staff members tried to replace a Daly lawn sign with an old Bill Luther lawn sign in front of the our office this past Monday night. They were caught red-handed by a Daly staff member.

Thirdly, on Tuesday night, the Kline staff members slashed and tore down the big Daly lawn signs seen on the driving range off of 35W as well as multiple signs around the District.

Rather than try winning the election by talking about issues with voters, they rather win through personal attacks and dirty tricks. For a man who claims integrity in his advertising, why would he let his staff do such things that disrespect democracy?

2. Donation linkage
Give to Teresa

Every cent matters. People are saying that Kline is in grave danger; on November 2 Daly has a serious shot at knocking Kline out of the House.

12. Send Kline a real football to hang on to tonight
Who knows? He may fumble.

Despite the size of the Second District, the Daly and Kline headquarters are literary just across a parking lot from each other. The Kline folks have pulled a few shenanigans and it may be time to return the favor.

5. Come on...
The sign thing is probably happening on both sides, I hope they have some proof before throwing out those kind of accusations.

Otherwise, I think the champagne thing is pretty funny, particularly if you've seen her commercials. I'm not gonna say that Daly's ads suck, but...well...they really, really, suck.

I don't know who's running that show, but Daly needs some new leadership if she's ever going to have a chance.

My prediction: Kline by +20

8. I've been waiting to have a chance to comment on Kline.
I don't think that he is a native Minnesotan. His web site says that they run her families farm in southeast Minnesota.

I believe that Kline was originally from Texas. Wearing my tinfoil hat, I think that he might have had some contact with the Republican Party before moving here. I just think that it would be too coincidental that a Texan moving to Minnesota would rise so quickly to a postion of power within the state.

Now on the other hand, the Minnesota GOP had no trouble accepting Brooklyn's Coleman as their standard bearer for the Senate. I guess home grown Republicans just don't measure up anymore.

Oh that's right, Tim Pawlenty. Well I rest my case.

9. Native Minnesotan...
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 02:14 AM by IMissPaul
Look, I hate Kline as much as the next guy...probably more...but this whole "not a native Minnesotan" thing is a load of crap.

Some of our best leaders have been born out of state...Sorry to tell ya fellas, but Paul Wellstone wasn't a "native Minnesotan."

There is a lot of stuff to attack Mayor Quimby and that damn Kline on, but being born outside of Minnesota shouldn't be one of them.

11. And you wonder why we keep losing...
I'm not being critical of Democrats. I'm being critical of stupid ideas. Letting inner-circle political cheap-shots become our mantra is a big part of why we have lost every major race in this state since Gore 2000 (barring the 2002 Senate race).

Attacking someone for being born outside of Minnesota is the kind of thing that is fun to take cheap-shots about amongst friends, but when average voters hear that kind of stuff it is extremely unconvincing.

Take a little look back at the last few elections we have won (Wellstone, Hatch, Dayton, etc...) and you'll see that we have done it by talking about the issues that matter and pointing out how wrong war-mongers like Kline are in those areas. Calling Kline a Texan or whining that Mark Kennedy is being mean is the kind of crap that won't ever work.

Don't believe me? Talk to me in about 24 hours.
