Governor Pawlenty hints at a third term
http://ksax.com/article/stories/S768494.shtml?cat=10230

Funny the article doesn't mention the 35W bridge and tax cuts that helped lead to it... no income = no ability to keep infrastructure maintained. And more tax cuts for businesses can not be the answer. Who pays up the slack? Not the jobless.

1. We absolutely positively MUST have a strong candidate
to dump this guy. And while I'm not against 3rd parties, we need to strike a deal and not let another Repub in with less than a majority vote.

2. Well, he won't be getting any campaign contributions from...
... the guy shaking T-Paw's paw in this pic:

3. We need IRV, so no one can win an election with just a plurality rather than a majority.
We would never have gotten stuck with Pawlenty if we had IRV. It's ridiculous that we end up with a governor like Pawlently when barely 40% actually supported the guy.

4. Well, he's been out of the state so much the last couple years
it's almost like he didn't have a 2nd term at all.

Poor little Timmy is in a spot. If he doesn't run for another term in 2010 there really isn't much he can do to remind people that he's still around and available to be Palin's running mate in 2012.

5. I think he may take a shot at the 2012 GOP Presidential Primary
I see his recent trip to Israel as a trip to raise his status. Would he really want to dare to take on Obama in 2012? Maybe 2016 at the earliest as he would not stand a chance against Obama.

8. But Timmy will still need the governor's office
Maybe he's known in the Republican heirarchy, but he doesn't have enough of a national identity of his own for the rank and file to know who he is. He'll fade quickly into obscurity if he doesn't have a poltical office to use to give himself a platform to work from.

The sad thing is, I think there are a lot of people in the country who have the idea that Minnesota is a state that works and will assume it still does (even with the bridge collapse). The fact the Pawlenty has done his best to make us #50 in everything will be lost and he'll actually be running on the successes of past governors.

13. I agree. He is going to run for President. UGGGH! He knows he will loose if he
runs for Gov again. I hear him ramping up his speaking points on things like the Stimulus pkg. and other things. His pandering with Coleman at the Pro-Life gathering and yes, his trips to other Countries. I think the best thing to happen is for the truth about him to be exposed while he is Governor and how awful he truly is.

9. How many governors do things other than govern the state they were elected to govern?
He doesn't need to run again. The I35W bridge and wanting taxpayers to pay for a big baseball stadium, claiming he didn't want the team to go under "his" watch, were more than plenty to say "no" to Pawlenty.

6. No doubt he'd prefer a Senate run
but he's smart enough to not take on Amy in 2012.

7. True, he would want to take on Franken not Klobuchar
Amy is doing a really good job and will be tough for the GOP to smear when her present term nears its end.

11. Oh for the love of god no...
I would rather jump off the new I35 bridge than have to live one more term under that prick's rule. He is a complete pompous fuckwit who shouldn't be allowed to suck of the valuable air that the good people of Minnesota need to live. If he ran for president, suicide, or political asylum in another country may be an option...if he gets elected to another term in office in MN...I am moving to another state.

12. Excellent first post!
Welcome to DU! "Complete pompous fuckwit" - I gotta say, you pretty much nailed Timmy with that phrase.

14. Did you see him on Maddow tonight? Total ass-wipe. He said
"glad to be on and you are funny" at the beginning. The "you are funny" part was delivered with a hint of dry sarcasm. Totally no emotion what so ever through the whole interview. He kept repeating talking points and said nothing of any substance nor gave any opinion. He is running for sure. He is a total phony.

15. I saw that.
I suppose he's trying to present himself to the nation as a "moderate" whose not afraid to talk to liberal talk show hosts. I thought he came off as a total jerk. It would be interesting to know how people not so familiar with the tool reacted to him.
