2. Well I'm leaving for a convention in Florida the next day, so I
don't want to go all the way to St. Paul that night.

That's my only thought at this point.

5. Where's the 331 Club?
I was thinking of going to one of my SD's house candidates party, but I haven't made up my mind so I'm open. I know I don't thinki I could stand being home alone.

We'll have drink specials, Raleigh's Tacos, wifi, election returns, and giveways. Copies of "Goodnight Bush" (www.goodnightbush.com) will be given away every 30 minutes between 7:30 and 9, and KFAI will be calling throughout the night for live updates.

Celebrate this historic election with Drinking Liberally!

7. Now that actually sounds kind of appealing
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 01:37 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
I'd be glad to drop in for a while.

But I've never been there. How big is it? Would people be standing nose-to-back-of-head, like on a Japanese subway at rush hour, or is the place spacious enough to accommodate a large crowd?

(P.S. I'm in the process of arranging to meet up with Orlando DUers while I'm down there.)

ON EDIT: Any club that features the Roe Family Band AND All the Pretty Horses must be an interesting place. (Did you know that Venus attends my church? And dresses that way all the time?)

10. How about having a smaller gathering some place that is
Democratic-friendly and yet not a main venue? I hate the idea of standing in crowds (especially beer-soaked crowds).

Any ideas? What lesser known bars and/or restaurants are known to be Dem-friendly?

11. And will have at least one TV.
Do any of us have a state rep whose having a gathering at a hotel or restaurant - we could crash that. (I know of one - but it's in Burnsville so I don't think the location works real well for a lot of us.)

12. I looked at the websites of some of my local people
and none of them seem to have anything going on.

Sigh, it was so much easier in Portland: just hop onto a bus to the ONE downtown, walk a block to the hotel, and when you'd had enough (it WAS the election of 2002 :-( ), just go back out to the bus stop, confident that the return bus would be along in 15 minutes or less.

Speaking of which, I'm trying to think of non-divey places along Hennepin. Can't think of any, really. Not with TV sets.

Amazing Thailand, a newish Thai restaurant and bar near the Suburban World Theater, has a TV and pretty decent food, but I don't know the owners' political opinions.

I work nights. I'll be in a media black hole until I get home at midnight and start wading through the alerts. I'm sure we'll be on DefCon 12... :-)

You guys have a good time. Maybe I can make the usual Saturday lunch meet-up.

I don't do well in massive crowds, and I don't like the idea of driving all the way to downtown St. Paul (:scared: ) and back the night before I have to catch an 8AM flight.

23. Ok, here is what I did
I reserved a table in the south bar at O'garas tomorrow for provisionally 7:30 pm.

They do have a band playing, however it will not distract very much due to the location.

So, we had better let everyone know and if you have any questions send me a pm.

O'Garas tomorrow night at 7:30 pm unless anyone thinks we need a different time.

(I once spent an hour trying to find someone's house.)

And I've just sent a bunch of PMs to alert other DUers.
