1. Franken is doing fine
Rassmussen has it at 45-45, 49-46 favoring Coleman with leaners included. Not good for the race being that close for a Repub incumbent this late in what is looking like a Democratic year.

2. Not good at all for an incumbant to be pulling those numbers
though I'll have more faith in polls after Labor Day. The other, unscientific "poll" I take a look at is how busy the DFL and Republican booths are at the State Fair and what kind of crowds the candidates' booths are attracting.

3. An incumbent who has run a ton of ads
smearing his opponent and all he can do is run even. Al is firing back now, will he pull ahead?

5. remember: Republican Senate candidates in Minnesota sometimes self-destruct.
Remember Rudy Boschwitz?

Remember the 'who's a better Jew' letter?

Remember the 'We saw Paul WEllstone burn a flag -- no, wait, we talked to a guy who did! Honest!' news conference?

{you do recall this stuff, don't you?)

Those cards could come up again...you never, ever concede a Minnesota Senate race.

6. Ahhhh, the "good Jew, bad Jew" letter of 1990
I never did send Boschwitz a thank you letter for sending that out - it was pretty much what put Wellstone over the top that year.
