Labor Day picnic at Harriett Island
I think that this is a tradition with the local unions.. Four years ago we were there, when Edwards - well, he was the VP nominee - was the guest of honor, and was late because Cheney came to town, too, and no takeoffs and landings were allowed around his plane.

Anyway, it seems that the GOP convention starts on Labor Day, so I am curious about whether both events can co-exist.

We'll see if Edwards will still be there given all that has been going on...

"Hip Hop acts Atmosphere and Lupe Fiasco, actor/ musician Mos Def and British rocker Billy Bragg are joining the line-up at the Service Employees International Union’s (SEIU) Take Back Labor Day Festival at the foot of the Republican National Convention.

On the opening day of the Republican National Convention, the Service Employees International Union will sponsor a festival on St. Paul’s Harriet Island to celebrate workers’ achievements and “promote a New Vision for the 21st Century.”

The festival will run from noon to 7 p.m. on Sept. 1, Labor Day, at Harriet Island Regional Park in the Mississippi River in downtown St. Paul.

The festival will feature musicians Steve Earle, Allison Moorer and Tom Morello and speakers will include former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate John Edwards, SEIU President Andy Stern and Change to Win Chair Anna Burger.

In addition to the Labor Day concert, the festival will include a You Tube station, a fully equipped blogger lounge, a children’s area and a large audience-participation art project."

2. Thanks. This should be interesting
Perhaps Garrison Keillor and Mr. Hightower can be there to cheer the crowd, again.

4. Steve Earle and Tom Morello are going to be there.
Tom Morello is one of the musicians who has had the largest impact on my personal beliefs and I am really excited to see him perform. John Edwards is supposed to be there as well, but I suspect he may very well cancel in light of the recent news. It is going to be an amazing event though, Tom Morello and Steve Earle playing great protest music right across the river from the RNC. How could I ever miss such an event?
