Pawlenty -- who is trying to promote the Department of Health's Get Up, Get Out, Get Fit fitness initiative -- finished his second marathon in a chip time of 3 hours, 57 minutes, 52 seconds, and a listed time of 3:59:10. That was nearly a half-hour faster than his goal time, but nearly a half-hour slower than the last time he ran Twin Cities, in 1991.
The 43-year-old governor wasn't even sure if he would finish, given his erratic training - putting in a couple of weekly 5-mile runs and a long run every other weekend. His longest run had been 21 miles, "and I just crashed," he said.

The 6-3, 197-pound Pawlenty was accompanied by a running state trooper and a biking security official armed with a defibrillator just in case. The governor said he found the apparatus "reassuring," though the only thing he needed along the way was ibuprofen.
He also said he spotted plenty of political signs along the way -- mostly for Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. "I was so delirious I even stopped at the John Kerry water stop," he joked. "Had I known, I would have run right by."
