Driving in Minneapolis? Watch out, our 'pro-road' government is...
going to install automatic cameras and sock it to you.

http://wcco.com/localnews/local_story_248114349.html

This is done, of course, to automatically 'generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for the city'...

The last time I was in Minneapolis, I was walking down the street and got harassed. I saw some cops in a window at the laundromat having a grand old time. They saw me but did nothing.

Just another reason for me to stay out of the city.

No, I don't run red lights and this will do nothing to stop people who go through an intersection a millisecond before it turns red or just after it turns red. I am against this orwellian-turned-reality stuff on principle and those types I mentioned will get hit the most because only drunks and such run full blown red lights.

1. Sorry, I don't agree with you at all
It's not only 'drunks and other such' who run full blown red lights. I see it all the time. As a matter of fact, my sister and her kids came within seconds of being killed, TWICE, in Eden Prairie (a suburb of Minneapolis) because she hesitated just a fraction before going through an intersection on a green light. HUGE TRUCKS blew through lights that had been red for about 30 seconds and would have T-boned her car.

I'm for anything that helps make the roads safer. Red lights are breached all the time, and it's about time we had cameras to catch these stupid assholes. Driving is not a right, it's a privilege. And if you break the law, you pay the fine.

2. Point taken,
Of course, we both know that a $100 fine won't stop anybody busy enough either...

And if the article was written from YOUR perspective, I'd agree (albeit grudgingly) with the idea. But it's clear the article wants to generate controversy regarding money and it's sure as hell going to be abused, it's just that simple. Hell, they're not even using VIDEO cameras - just photographs. I'm sorry, but while I accept your point, I still disagree with this system. Not unless they make it as ethical as possible.

Now if only Minneapolis would go after the jaywalkers, who are as much of a threat as people running red lights. I've yet to encounter one disabled jaywalker but have had to sit through tons of people who believe the world is theirs and/or think they're so great by stopping traffic. Fine then $100 as well.
