In the DFL primary for US Senate who would you vote for between Ford Bell, Mike Ciresi, Amy Klobuchar, and Patty Wetterling?

1. Peace First! Both Wetterling and Bell are calling for troops home
in 06. Can't vote for both so chose Wetterling.

2. As a lawyer I would hope Amy would make a b-line for the ...
impeachment papers.

4. Patty is more electable considering outstate moderates
She picks up votes outstate, without losing any anywhere else.

5. Not always true
my parents are GOP moderates and they are more receptive to Amy and think Patty is too inexperienced.

6. Right, don't make assumptions about who will appeal
In Oregon's 2002 gubernatorial primary, I REALLY favored a more liberal candidate, Bev Stein, who had done an impressive amount of grassroots organizing, but I voted for Ted Kulongoski, because I thought he'd appeal to the outstate moderates.

A lot of other people must have thought the same way, because Kulongoski won the primary, even though the Oregon Dems are very, very liberal.

Wrong. Outstate overwhelmingly went for Kulongoski's rival, the law-and-order, budget slashing Republican knuckledragger Kevin Mannix.

It was only the last-minute returns from liberal strongholds of Portland and Eugene (fortunately the largest cities in the state) that put Kulongoski over the top.

7. Anybody else wish Wetterling would post her positions?
Her website has no "issues" section to describe her views on anything except the war in Iraq.

8. Her political "strategists" should be fired
To be at this stage in a statewide campaign and not have positions developed on anything but the war is pathetic. And sorry, "safety of our children" ain't enough. But then, these are the same people who advised her to run for Senate instead of the 6th CD, where she could win.

Political consultants can make more money on a statewide Senate race than in a congressional district race, so they've obviously steered her to the race where THEY can get the fattest. That's the sad state of politics today--including the DFL. Money runs campaigns--not principals. Ask Scott Mortensen.

9. Remember, Klobuchar's father earns her some name recognition...
...for youngsters, Jim Klobuchar was an Iron Ranger who became a Mike Royko-type columnist for the Strib (the old Star, before that, actually)
He knew the rangers, their lifestyles and though he pissed them off sometimes because he was a liberal (big Humphrey supporter) he remaineed
one of their own and was widely esteemed.
