Protest Bush*/Mark Kennedy Friday...11AM
bush* is trying to slither into Minneapolis under the radar.
I know of no organized protest.
I did receive this via E-Mail a cvouple of weeks ago.

I am going to try to be out there tomorrow (Friday).
Anyone else?

*** Protest Bush in Minneapolis! ***
BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW!
MILITARY RECRUITERS OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS!

Friday, December 9th
11 AM - 12:30 PM
Hilton Hotel, 1001 Marquette Ave. S., Mpls
Map:
<http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&lr=&q=hilton+hotel&near=Minneapolis,+MN&sa=X&oi=locald&radius=0.0&cid=44980000,-93263611,662244767038512873&li=lmd&z=3>

On Friday, December 9th George W. Bush will descend on Minneapolis for a $1,000 a plate fund raising dinner for Mark Kennedy, the Republican Congressman now running for Senate. From Korea to Argentina, from London to Moscow, wherever George Bush goes he is met with mass protests. We need to make sure the Twin Cities keeps doesn't let the rest of the world down! The "leader of the free world" has become the most hated political figure on the planet for good reason. From the war in Iraq to Bush's attempt to expand U.S. economic imperialism, from his deep cuts of social programs for the poor to his nomination of Alito to the Supreme Court, this president is on a warpath against working people.

On December 9th, the people of the Twin Cities needs to clearly show that Bush is not welcome in our town!
* End the war in Iraq!
* Money for jobs and education, not war!
* Military recruiters out of our schools!
* NO to racism and attacks on civil liberties!

WALKOUT OF CLASS???
*** At the November 29th metro-wide meeting of Youth Against War and Racism, we agreed to endorse this protest and urge students to walk out of class to attend this Friday protest against Bush. Unlike the November 2nd, YAWR does not have time and capacity to fully mobilize for a mass walkout or to organize the defense of students who might face repression and punishment for walking out of school. However, YAWR supports and encourages every student who feels it is important to voice their opposition to Bush to be able to do so. See you there!

"When the strongest nation in the world can be tied up for ... years in a war ... with no end in sight, when the richest nation in the world can't manage its own economy, when the nation with the greatest tradition of the rule of law is plagued by unprecedented lawlessness, ... and when the President of the United States cannot travel abroad or to any major city at home without fear of a hostile demonstration - then it's time for new leadership for the United States of America."-- Richard Nixon, 1968

5. WCCO (Ch4) at 5PM
gave you some coverage. WCCO said there were about 100 protesters.
I didn't see anyone I recognized.
I was unable to go today.
They also covered the Democratic Counter Meeting(?) at the Hotel.
They gave approx equal time to the Repubs vs the protest and Democratic spokesperson who said:

"Bush* is the most unpopular president, and Mark Kennedy is the most unpopular politician in Minnesota, so they belong together."(not exact quote)

Thanks for carrying the banner today!

6. KARE also gave you coverage

You were the second part of the story after leading off with Bush's "Senator Kennedy" comment. They showed how ritzy it was inside and after the protest went to the DFL counter meeting.

Edit: for the 6pm news they only presented Bush and the DFL response, there was no coverge of the protests.

7. There were a lot of cameras, both TV and still photographers
The media makes a conscious decision what to cover based on their own political leanings. I guess they want to stay the course a while longer.

There were just two counter-protesters - two unhappy looking guys, not well-to-do either. It's unlikely they were invited to the $1,000 a plate luncheon and 14-minute speech by King George. I wonder why they work against their own interests.

12. The building I work at in Eagan
is right under a major flight path. One of my coworkers (who thinks like us) happened to outside having a cigarette and saw Air Force One fly over on its way out of town. I forgot to ask her if she gave the appropriate salute.

14. I did flip off AF1 once, when Dim Son was visiting before the "election."
I was at work (also in Eagan), standing by the window, and it flew by on approach to 30R. So I quickly "saluted." Made me feel good.
